    3. This hairstyle was the real winner of the Emmys 2018

This hairstyle was the real winner of the Emmys 2018

Published on 18 September 2018 - Last updated on 19 December 2025 by Beth Ryan

It’s felt like a hot minute since awards season, so the latest Emmys celebration had me hawk-eyed at the catwalk. Between silently rooting for The Handmaid’s Tale to win everything, and tearing up at *that proposal*, I was admiring the handiwork of ‘glam squads’ across the country, who did their thing on those in attendance. Most notably: the low bun.

Centre part, full brows, and a slight pink-tinge on the lip was the go-to vibe at the event, looking 10/10 on Emilia Clarke and co.

(Somewhat) easy to create on your own, and the ideal style for a desk-to-bar situation, this look was the real winner. It works best on freshly washed hair, while a blow dry will help to maintain the shape post-styling. Part the hair, and smooth into a low bun, secure with grips (if your hair’s a little thinner), or a regular hair band. Leave a chunk of hair loose, and wrap this around the band to conceal it. You glam thing, you.

    FAQs

How do you create a low bun hairstyle at home?

To create a low bun, part your freshly washed hair and smooth it down. Secure the hair at the nape using grips if your hair is thinner, or a regular hair band. Leave a section of hair loose to wrap around the band and conceal it, finishing the look.

What hair type works best for a low bun style?

A low bun works best on freshly washed hair for a neat appearance. If your hair is thinner, using extra grips can help secure the style. This look suits most hair textures and is versatile for everyday or event-ready styles.

How can you make a low bun last longer?

A professional blow dry before styling helps maintain the low bun’s shape for longer. Freshly styled hair adds smoothness, and wrapping a loose section around your band keeps the finish sleek and polished throughout the day.

What makeup look complements a low bun best?

A centre part, full brows, and a slight pink-tinged lip pair perfectly with a low bun. This combination creates a clean, elegant vibe seen on several stars for a polished red carpet or desk-to-bar look.

When is a low bun hairstyle a good choice?

A low bun is ideal for both work and evening plans, offering a polished appearance that transitions effortlessly. Its simple, chic style makes it suitable for events like awards nights or a quick refresh between the office and a night out.
