Alright, we’ve talked hair trends, and though the return of copper is sure to be huge, Google searches for ‘brown hair’ are rising (and you’re about to see why).
Just like tonal blondes, going ‘brunette’ doesn’t mean committing to one shade all over. Talk to your stylist about face-framing colour techniques; toffee-toned babylights, toasted chestnut shades (think deep, rich red), or try balayage. All of which will add dimension to chocolatey locks.
So, how about styling brunette tresses? According to Helen Davis, of Pickles & Co salon, “creating a natural look is starting to become popular, not only for colour, but for styling too. Shabby chic waves are bigger than ever, using a mid-length base, with soft laying – textured, but not heavy”.
Healthy hair is (unsurprisingly) ‘in’ too. When asked about ‘trends’, Davis goes on; “it’s about how shiny the hair is, meaning every highlight needs toning, every brunette needs glossing. We are finding that clients want healthy hair that you want to touch because it just flows, the softness of the waves and texture creates a movement that will naturally fall into place.”
There’s heaps of brunette inspiration out there, from your Instagram feed, to your bus ride to work (I can’t be the only hair stalker on the number 53). But, to encourage your commitment to brunette – and because my ‘saved’ Insta pictures are 99% shots of glossy brown hair – here are the snaps you can take straight to the salon chair.

What are some popular brunette colour techniques you can try?
You can choose from face-framing colour techniques, toffee-toned babylights, toasted chestnut shades, or balayage to transform brunette hair. These options help add dimension and richness, especially to chocolatey locks, offering a personalised and modern look.
How can you make brunette hair look more natural and on-trend?
Go for shabby chic waves with a mid-length base and soft layering for a natural, textured style that isn’t heavy. This approach creates movement, emphasises softness, and makes brunette hair look current and effortlessly stylish.
Why is glossing important for brunette hair?
Glossing keeps brunette hair shiny and healthy-looking. Achieving glossy brown hair ensures each highlight reflects light beautifully, and the overall effect is smooth, touchable hair that appears well-maintained.
What should you discuss with your stylist when going brunette?
Talk to your stylist about adding face-framing colour, babylights, or balayage for dimension and richness. Let your stylist know if you want a natural style with soft waves, and ask about glossing to keep your hair looking healthy and shiny.
Where can you find inspiration for glossy brunette hairstyles?
Look for brunette hair inspiration on Instagram feeds or even during your daily commute. Saved online photos of brown hair can be helpful to show your stylist exactly what you want when you visit the salon.
