More guys than ever are braving their local waxing salon. We get it, you’re teetering on the edge of hair removal, but without hard and fast facts, you’re not jumping. Fear not, we’ve got ’em for you. Here’s the lowdown.
-
1 Does it hurt?
We're not going to lie – it stings a tad, especially if you're new to it. The good news: it's only for a second – and we reckon you can handle it. Be prepared for some areas to be more sensitive than others, like the inside of your thighs. But over time, your hair follicles will weaken, which means less pain.
-
2 How long 'til I need to go back?
You'll have around two to three weeks of silky smooth skin before the hair starts to come back. Most guys leave six weeks between appointments as you need about 5mm of hair for the wax to work most effectively. As the hairs weaken, it'll grow back more slowly, too.
-
3 Can you keep your clothes on?
Due to the nature of waxing… not really, but it depends what part of the body you're there for. For a Brazilian you'll need to strip down to your socks, but obviously if you're just getting your eyebrows tidied you can keep all your clothes on. Wear something loose for a body wax so it's comfortable to put back on afterward.

4 And the alternatives are?
Waxing is a short-term, no-strings-attached way to dip a grizzly toe in the world of hair removal. It leaves a smoother finish than shaving and, while laser hair removal does last longer, it's also a long-term commitment. Plus – we weren't lying. It really will grow back.
FAQs
How long does waxing keep your skin smooth?
You can expect about two to three weeks of silky smooth skin after waxing. Most people notice hair starts to come back after this period. As the hair weakens with regular waxing, regrowth becomes slower.
How often should you get a men’s waxing appointment?
Most people leave about six weeks between waxing appointments. This allows hair to grow to the ideal length of 5mm for the wax to work properly. Waiting also means you get the smoothest results with less discomfort.
What do you need to wear for a body wax?
For most body waxing treatments, you’ll need to remove some clothing. For a Brazilian wax, you’ll need to undress down to your socks, while eyebrow waxing lets you keep all your clothes on. Loose clothing is recommended so it’s comfortable to put back on after your treatment.
Does waxing hurt and does it get better over time?
Waxing does sting a little, especially if it’s your first time, but the sensation only lasts a second. Some areas, like the inner thighs, can be more sensitive. Over time, as hair follicles weaken, waxing becomes less painful.
What are the alternatives to waxing for hair removal?
You can choose between waxing, shaving and laser hair removal. Waxing gives a smoother finish than shaving and is a temporary solution, while laser hair removal has longer-lasting results but is a bigger commitment. Hair will always grow back eventually, even after waxing.
