These are the best hairstyles from the 2021 Euros

Published on 25 June 2021 - Last updated on 19 December 2025 by Beth Ryan

The Euros are back, and in full swing. We’ve been anticipating the atmosphere, talent, and celebratory (or commiseratory) drinks for what feels like forever. What we’ve also been anticipating? The stream of inevitably cool hairstyles that grace the pitches each game.

With all the most talented – and stylish – players in one tournament, what better time to get inspired for your next hairstyle. We’re looking to the heads of players such as Kalvin Phillips, Antoine Griezmann, and of course, the iconic Cristiano Ronaldo for inspo. From Frenkie de Jong’s Flow cut, to Phil Foden’s full-blown Gazza tribute, these are the best men’s hairstyles from the Euros.

1 Frenkie de Jong's flow cut

As the name suggests, the flow cut is all about the sense of actual flowing movement in the hair. The hair is kept pretty long on top, with layers and a professional step cut adding volume and fullness to the hair. This flow cut can be styled easily with a wax or pomade through the lengths of the hair, as demonstrated by the Netherlands’ Frenkie de Jong.

      2 Phil Foden's Gazza tribute

Phil Foden underwent a much-talked-about ‘full gazza’ transformation for Euros 2020, and tbh, we’re definitely here for it. Foden’s new trim is characterized by the micro-fringe and bleached colour with a silvery-grey hue. Let’s hope the Gazza inspo brings us some luck this year, too?

      3 Toni Kroos' modern pompadour

The pompadour haircut might have been primarily associated with Elvis et al. in days gone by, but the modern update is now a firm fave with footballers. Toni Kroos gives the look a sportier edge by adding a deep side part, an undercut, and keeping the top length relatively long. The end result is a sleek, masculine look that’s super easy to pull off.

4 Kalvin Phillips' braided look with fade

Kalvin Phillips’ braided look is definitely a stand-out from the tournament, and possibly one of our faves. The England star’s hair is braided into sections on top, with the braids tied in two hair ties towards the back of the head. The sides are expertly faded to a super short buzz. Rumour has it Phillips’ style is already influencing other players (we’re looking at you, Trent Alexander-Arnold), and we can see why.

      5 Antoine Griezmann's casual man-bun

The man-bun might not be as prevalent today as it was back in the 2010’s, but Antoine Griezmann is proving that this style might just have outgrown it’s hipster reputation. Griezmann’s hair is slicked back to a mid-height bun, and he opts to leave out some of his super long locks, making for a casual variation on the look. Grew out your hair during lockdown? This casual half bun might be your go-to post-covid look.

      6 Joshua Kimmich's undercut fade

The classic undercut fade is the perfect example of minimal effort with maximum effect. This haircut is not only easy to get (almost every stylist masters it perfectly), but it’s also currently one of the most popular short haircuts out there, and for good reason. As demonstrated by Germany’s Joshua Kimmich, this cut is longest at the top, and fades to a close buzz at sides (often only up to 3mm long), making it the perfect style for summer.

      7 Cristiano Ronaldo's faux-hawk

The faux-hawk is Cristiano Ronaldo’s go-to look, and we can see why. We’ve seen him rock a good few variations of this style over the years: he’s currently wearing a short, chic styled version, with the tips styled with product to create a dense crown shape. This cut is always popular, mainly because of its wearability. Heading straight from the pitch to the office? No problem with this versatile style.

    FAQs

What is a flow cut hairstyle and how do you style it?

A flow cut is a hairstyle with long hair on top, layered and cut professionally to create natural movement and fullness. You can easily style it by running wax or pomade through the lengths. This look is popular for its volume and relaxed appearance.

How do you recreate Phil Foden’s Gazza tribute hairstyle?

To get Phil Foden’s Gazza tribute, ask for a micro-fringe with short length and a bleached, silvery-grey colour. This bold style is inspired by classic football looks and stands out for its bright, unique finish. Make sure your stylist uses the right products to achieve the silvery tone.

Which men’s haircut is easiest to maintain for summer?

The undercut fade, as worn by Joshua Kimmich, is one of the easiest men’s haircuts to maintain for summer. This style keeps the top long while the sides are faded to a close buzz, sometimes as short as 3mm. It’s practical, stylish, and works well in hot weather.

Why is Cristiano Ronaldo’s faux-hawk hairstyle so popular?

Cristiano Ronaldo’s faux-hawk is popular because it’s versatile and wearable for both casual and professional settings. The short, styled version with product creates a dense crown shape, making it suitable for both the pitch and the office. It’s especially loved for its adaptability and classic appeal.

How do you achieve a braided hairstyle with fade like Kalvin Phillips?

For a look like Kalvin Phillips, ask your stylist to braid the top section of your hair into multiple braids, secured with two hair ties towards the back. The sides should be faded to a very short buzz for a strong contrast. This standout style is bold and already inspiring others.
