The best hair looks from The Met Ball

Published on 3 May 2017 - Last updated on 19 December 2025 by Beth Ryan

This weekend celebrities and A-listers gathered in New York at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the hottest ticket in town the prestigious Met Gala, and as always, when it came to dressing up they did not disappoint. Devoted to designer Rei Kawakubo and her label Comme des Garcons, the event showcased a variety of striking takes on beauty, with hair taking centre stage in many of the evening’s best looks. From carefully sculpted updos to haute blondes and blunt bobs, here’s our take on The Met Ball’s best hair looks. Read on to find out more…

    • 1 The blunt bob

From Karlie Kloss to Lily Collins and Kylie Jenner, many celebs debuted bobs in a variety of shades at The Met this weekend, but instead went full throttle by finishing them with choppy styling and harsh, blunt angles. Chic with an edgy, Avante-Garde twist, the haircut was injected with a serious dose of cool to update the classic style.

    • 2 Classic ponies

No star-studded event is complete without the classic red carpet pony, and Blake Lively and Gisele taught everyone how it’s done with their perfectly polished, beachy ponytails. Effortless yet high impact, this showstopping style is a tried-and-tested favourite with the red carpet regulars, and after this weekend it’s clear it’s not going away anytime soon.

    • 3 Sculpted updos

Another style which was favoured by many on Sunday night was the sculpted updo. Whether it was Hailee Steinfeld and Kate Hudon’s sky high top knots or Rihanna and Gigi Hadid’s bang-heavy undone buns, these towering swept-back styles ruled the red carpet in a major way at The Met.

    • 4 Haute blondes

‘When Donatella tells you to go blonde, you go fucking blonde!’ exclaimed Kylie Jenner on her Instagram this weekend, before she stepped onto the red carpet rocking a head turning platinum ‘do. And she wasn’t the only celeb that jumped on the bandwagon – it seemed like everywhere we looked at The Met this weekend, haute blonde hair was taking centre stage. Kate Hudson, Zoe Kravitz and Katy Perry were just a handful of other celebs who pitched up with platinum hair, and we can’t get enough of it.

    • 5 Super short graphic ‘do’s

Cara Delevingne won the award for super short hair at The Met this weekend after she arrived debuting her freshly shaved head, which she had spray painted silver for the event. Buzzcuts and pixies also reigned supreme on Sunday night, with Rita Ora and Katy Perry rocking equally short stylistic hair.
