Bowel cleansing

Bowel cleansing is the mother of all detox programmes because this is the route where the body will eliminate the majority of the by-products of the detoxification processes which happens every second of every day.

These take place;

  • In the liver; most environmental toxins, hormones and all of the cholesterol which need to be detoxified by the liver will be eliminated through the bowel in the form of bile in particular
  • In the cells; each cell in our body has to also eliminate the by-product of cellular metabolism. Those get picked up by the blood and lymph and is part eliminated through the bowel
  • In the digestive tract itself where we have special immune cells which filters potential pathogens including putrefactive bacteria, viruses, fungi, yeast and parasites

Because we are also eliminating the by-product of our food digestion through the bowel this make our bowel vulnerable to becoming clogged and leads an to impaired detoxification function as a result. In particular the bowel becomes exposed to the re-absorption of the toxins which are passing through it and should have been evacuated, but are slowed down by poor elimination.

To be efficient and minimise the risk of re-absorption of toxic materials, our bowels should open twice a day. A bowel movement should feel satisfying and leave us feeling empty afterward. Emptying will improve by using a stool to raise the knees above the hips while defecating. Colonic Irrigation is an effective way to clear the build up of waist which impairs proper elimination and should be included as part of a bowel cleansing programme.

The bowel cleanse

Duration: 21 days

Suitability: Not suitable in pregnancy

Objective: To rebalance bowel flora and bowel function. Healthy bowel flora is considered a major part of our immune system. It supports healthy detoxification by protecting the gut lining from the ill-effects of damaging bacteria, yeast fungus and parasites. Those have been attributed with toxic build up from, amongst many, the recycling of oestrogen (leading to an oestrogen over-load) and the putrefaction of protein from their life cycle as well as undigested food protein (leading to the production of noxious/carcinogenic chemical compounds)

You will need:

  • One bottle of Parex capsules (from Nutri Ltd tel.0800 212 742). A broad spectrum combination of herbs to eliminate unwanted guests from the gut.
  • One bottle of UltraProbioplex capsules (as above). A very potent and guarantied live probiotic supplement. Friendly bacteria although proven to be effective in raising immunity and improving gut health are fragile organisms and quality control is of utmost importance
  • Golden linseeds ( from health food shop)
  • Slippery Elm tea (from Specialist Herbal Supplies tel.01273 415000 or herbal shop)
  • Prunes or prune juice

The program:

  • Remove from the diet all processed, refined and sugar laden foods and avoid frying and white flesh potatoes
  • Eat unprocessed grains (such as brown rice, quinoa, millet, porridge oats and pearl barley); nuts (i.e. Brazil nuts, almonds, hazel nuts, walnuts etc. – not peanuts and cashew nuts); seeds (i.e. pumpkin, sesame, sunflower etc); pulses (i.e. lentils, chick peas, beans, etc); lean meat (i.e. chicken, turkey, lean beef, etc. – preferably organic and no more than 4 times a week); fish (oily fish are best but due to see pollution levels should be restricted to twice a week); unlimited vegetable (i.e. cabbage, etc.)
  • Build Parex capsules at the rate of x3 day for three days; x6 day for three days and x9 day for three days or until the bottle is finished. To help eliminate unfriendly organisms from the gut
  • Every morning and evening take one tablespoon of Golden Linseeds in cold or warm water. To increase bulk and better elimination
  • Drink a glass (200ml) of prune juice or eat ten prunes a day, in order to increase bowel movements to at least twice daily. If the combination of linseeds and prune juice fails to produce two good bowel movements a day you may add a Cascara based herbal blend (Cascara Complex from Specialist Herbal Supplies Tel.01273 415000). Take 2-4 before bed until you get the desired effect. Be aware of the cayenne pepper in the capsule which makes you stomach feel hotter the more you take; in itself not a problem although it can be unpleasant.
  • Drink Slippery Elm tea 1-3 a day, to sooth the gut
  • Start UltraProbioplex capsules once the Parex is finished. Take x4 day until bottle is finished to help re-populate friendly bacteria back into the gut. Keep refrigerated after opening.
