Pre-party facials – what’s the deal?

22 December 2015 by

About to splash your cash on a pre party facial? Don’t do anything until you’ve read our guide to getting your glow on.

We’ve all done it; spent hundreds of pounds on a facial that feels thoroughly pampering at the time, but the results of which seem to disappear faster than you can say ‘taxi.’ Many facials focus only on the surface of the skin. ‘Once you’ve got home and taken a shower the products applied to give the laminating effect will be instantly washed away’ explains Rowan Hall-Farrise, head therapist at The Face Place UK. ‘In my professional opinion, the aim of any pre-event facial should always be to hydrate, brighten and lift the complexion.’ So what are we talking about here? Needles? Lasers? Painful procedures that require days of downtime?  Heck no. Read on to discover what’s worth investing in and what isn’t.

  • 1 A manual lift facial massage

There’s a reason celebrities fly their facialists all over the world to prep them before a big event and it’s not because they need the air-miles. It’s because they give good ‘manual lift.’ ‘A great deep tissue facial massage can offer the stimulation to instantly brighten, tighten and lift the skin,’ says Rowan. Requiring little more than a skilled set of hands and a nourishing facial oil this type of massage re energises your face and helps shift the toxins that lead to under eye circles and facial puffiness.  You’ll be pleasantly surprised at the difference even a short session can make. Say hello to your cheekbones…

  • 2 A topical vitamin infusion

No amount of makeup can deliver the glow your skin is left with after a non- invasive vitamin infusion.  Potent levels of beauty’s most precious vitamin –  vitamin C (and often Vitamin A as well) will be applied to and then pushed deep into your skin using a galvanic current. ‘At the Faceplace I combine Vitamin C and Hyaluronic acid with galvanic, to illuminate, plump and hydrate. It’s particularly effective when someone has a special event to attend because of the lack of downtime,’ explains Rowan.
