Think your massage is a fleeting indulgence for your body? Well, it’s not. The effects last long after you’ve left the parlour. To keep that super relaxed, oh-so floaty feeling, try the following. (We can’t guarantee that they’ll keep you zen when back in the real world, but they will keep your body feeling tip top.)

1 Stay hydrated
Drink water. Lots of it. It’s the only way to flush out all those toxins your therapist has just released from your body. If we’re getting really geeky about it, it’s best to drink room temperature water – it absorbs much more quickly and so hydrates you quicker too.

2 Don’t touch that oil
If you’ve had an oil-based massage, leave the oils on your skin for as long as possible to work their magic. As well as leaving you looking like Adonis, they’re designed to soothe away aches and pains, and drain toxins even after you’ve departed the therapy room.

3 An excuse not to go the gym
One bonus of a massage you didn’t think of – a real excuse not to go to the gym. Your muscles will still be reacting to the massage 12-24 hours afterwards, so give them a chance to recover. Of course it’s best to do it in front of Netflix in your PJs.
