Wood Therapy description

A little tree-atment power. Wood therapy is a form of treatment during which the body is massaged with a variety of wooden implements. The therapy is designed to help you relax as well as to gently shape your body – both of which sound pretty good to us.

How does it work?

During your treatment your therapist will massage your body using different shaped wooden tools. They will begin by applying gentle pressure to the surface of your skin, before going on to massage your body's deeper tissues. The therapist will focus on particular areas such as the waist, thighs, hips, buttocks and arms to help give the body a toned and shapely appearance.

In order to achieve lasting results it is necessary to undergo several sessions of wood therapy. Some therapists also recommend combining wood massages with other treatments such as mesotherapy and lymphatic drainage for maximum effect.

Is it for me?

Practitioners claim that wood therapy can help to reduce cellulite, tone the body, activate cells and encourage weight loss. It can also help to ease the symptoms of stress and anxiety – leaving you feeling nice and relaxed.

Although it may help to reshape the body by removing excess localised fat, it can only do so if it’s part of a healthy regime of nutrition and exercise. Time to renew that gym membership...

As with any massage treatment it's best to inform your therapist if you are pregnant or suffering from an injury or medical condition – they will be able to assess whether the treatment is suitable for you.

Good to know

Trying to recreate this treatment at home with a wooden spoon just won't cut it - all the massage implements used during wood therapy have special shapes chosen to help them do their job well.
