Get ready for some good vibrations. Vibration plate training helps you to lose weight and tone your muscles, without leaving you out of breath or sweaty. Short of time? Just 10 minutes on a vibration plate machine will help you to achieve the same results as a 60 minute gym workout. No wonder this clever solution has created such a buzz...
During a session, you will be assigned your own workout machine and asked to sit, stand or lie down on it, depending on the part of your body you wish to tone. At the touch of a button, the machine will start to vibrate - giving your muscles a thorough workout. To really maximise the results, you will need to perform certain exercises such as squats and lunges whilst balancing on the plate (well, we never said it was glamorous...)
Vibration plate training works by forcing your muscles to rapidly relax and contract, keeping you stable and helping you to balance on the vibrating machine. Targeting a variety of areas such as the legs, arms and stomachs, it works best when used for 15-20 minutes, 2-3 times a week – great if you find you’re too busy for a longer exercise session.
For those who like a bit of variety, there are plenty of different settings on vibration plate machines. Not only can you alter the intensity of the vibrations, but you can also choose from a large number of different exercises designed to build up your strength – meaning that no two workouts need ever be the same.
Regular use of vibration plate machines can help you to develop your stability and strength, whilst improving your flexibility. This makes it a good training choice for those who practise sports and want to stay nice and limber.
If you are hoping to build up your muscles, vibration training is not the ideal solution – try lifting weights instead for that bodybuilder look. It’s also a good idea to combine your vibration plate workouts with some extra cardio sessions, as the vibrations don’t do much to help your heart or lungs.
Vibration plate sessions are usually run as gym classes, so can be a great way to socialise and meet new friends.
