How does it work?
Time Line therapy works on the basis that we all store our experiences in a timeline located in our unconscious mind. The purpose of a therapy session is to identify the point on the timeline when a problem first developed, and to eliminate the negative emotions associated with this time. This allows the client to move forward in life unburdened by events from the past.
The therapist will ask you to identify specific events from the past which you associate with a particular emotion, for example anger. They will then talk you through techniques to dispel this emotion, before moving on to others until all negative energy has been eliminated. During the session the therapist will help you to learn from your past experiences so that you can use them as positive resources in the future – after all, they do say everything happens for a reason.
Is it for me?
Time Line Therapy may be helpful in overcoming depression, anxiety, apathy and fear. This form of therapy has been described as a ‘mental spring clean’ - practitioners recommend that you arrange sessions as often as you feel helpful to give you a clearer mind.
Good to know
Although many people find their problems can be attributed to a childhood event, Time Line Therapy is also related to past life regression therapy. Some practitioners report cases of clients whose problems could be traced to incidents that occurred in a previous life time.
Time Line Therapy has been used in Croatia to help victims of the war suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
