The steet dance classes at Sadler's Wells were very enjoyable and I feel like I learnt a lot even though they were 3 sessions. The teacher knew exactly what she was doing and was very trained for the job. I would certainly consider joining long-term if I didn't live so inconveniently far away!
Fairly central location. You had to go through a coded door that you have to ask at reception for. The dance space was pretty big for the group that was there. Plenty of space and a great instructor to show us the correct moves.
Was heaps of fun, met a few nice people and all were very friendly. Teachers were fantastic, taught you the steps carefully and it was easy to pick up. Really good workout and I would definitely go back again and bring a friend too. Looking forward to my next session!
This was such great value for money, I actually went to Zumba classes which were great fun, I prefered the 7.30 class times as they don't seem as busy. If you don't like aerobics I would suggest this and you dance for a whole hour much more fun!
I loved the ballet class taster with Phoebe Appleby and I have already signed up for the ballet beginners course. Unfortunately didn't feel the street dance taster was suitable for beginners.
My Husband & I really enjoyed Latin Dancing. We were fortunate that it was only a small group so our dance teacher was very attentive & was able to get to know us individually. Overall out of the three dance lessons with took up with this deal this was my favourite.
My next Taster was Commerical Street Dance. My first expression of the venue was small and very much in need of a refurbishment. We couldn't hear the dance teacher due to the gym music playing in the background so found it very diificult to follow his dance steps. This one wasn't for me.
Last but not least, we attended a Ballroom Lesson. My husband really enjoyed this class. The group were really friendly. The teacher made it fun for us with his witty humour and his patience when explain the dance moves. Overall very enjoyable.
I got one of the vouchers that gave you 3 classes at Sadler's Wells - all were in different venues (Westminster Academy, Finsbury Town Hall, and Lillian Bayliss Studio) in and around the Angel/Clerkenwell area with different instructors. The ballet taster was really good, giving a good overall feel of what doing ballet would encompass, the Urban Street Dance gave you a good idea of what classes would be like as well. Bollywood was taken by a fill-in teacher the week I went - I found the teacher good but can't comment on what doing a course of classes would be like. I didn't decide to go ahead with a term of any of these - I preferred Zumba (I also attended 2 classes of Zumba at City on a different deal, with two different instructors - one I preferred over the other) but that's just my own personal taste (prefer to be constantly moving rather than stopping & starting). Overall I'd say City Academy provides a variety of different classes of good quality & value - it's just up to you what you're after.
I actually did a Zumba class. The instructor was quite good, however there were only 4 of us in the class which gave it no atmosphere. I also did not enjoy the style of music chosen. Personally, I didn't really like it although it had nothing to do with the instructor or the place.
Loads of fun. The classes were packed and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. I would go back without any time and am looking forward to seeing more offers on the dance classes. Totally worth the £10.
The venue was easy enough to find and very conveniently located near Angel tube station. The venue was well equipped with a nice cafe on the ground floor where one can relax and have a bite and coffee.
I joined the Urban Street Dance class and there were about 6 students; the instructor was friendly and she though she thought the taster / beginner class well, her dance style wasn't quite my cup of tea. So I'll rate the class a 3.
I much preferred the dance instructor- Jessica Ellen, teaching at the Colombo Fitness Centre, Southwark. The class at Colombo seemed much more popular as well, with Jessica's class being sold out just after 2 lessons.
