Experience a new way to let go. Khmer massage originated in Cambodia and makes use of passive stretching and gentle pressure along energy lines to relax the body and ease muscular tension. During a massage, the therapist may use different parts of their body to really work those muscles – leaving you feeling wonderfully relaxed and blissed out.
A Khmer massage typically lasts for about an hour. During this time your therapist will manipulate your body into different positions to help loosen it up and improve flexibility. You can expect a Khmer massage to differ quite a bit from your average massage - the therapist will also use their full body weight to help loosen up your muscles, sometimes even kneeling on your back. Not an ideal massage for those who are afraid to try new things, but if you are open-minded you may find you love it...
Having a Khmer massage can help to adjust skeletal structure, increase flexibility, relieve tension in the muscles and joints and balance the body’s energy system. It may not be suitable for those who are pregnant or injured, so it’s best to consult your therapist first if this applies to you.
The Khmer people believe that Thai massage originally derived from traditional Khmer massage, although Khmer techniques tend to be gentler than their Thai counterparts.
