Hair Simulation description

Keep your hair on. Hair loss in men is a common phenomenon, whether it’s down to male pattern baldness or a condition such as alopecia. Lack of hair can cause issues with confidence and self-esteem, and hair transplant surgery can seem a costly and risky procedure. There is, however, an alternative – hair simulation is a procedure similar to permanent make-up which involves tattooing the scalp to give the illusion of hair.

How does it work?

Practitioners use a process called micropigmentation to simulate hair. Micropigmentation involves using a sterile disposable needle to place small particles of iron oxide colour pigment below the skin’s surface. This replicates the appearance of real hair, helping to disguise any scars as well as hiding bare patches – so you can finally take that hat off.

Prior to the procedure, an anaesthetic cream is applied to the area to help numb it against any discomfort. Treatment time depends on the size of the area concerned – it can take as little as 3 hours to treat a small area, but (unfortunately for fidgets) it can be much longer for larger areas.

The results of the treatment are semi-permanent and last from 1-3 years, meaning you can enjoy your new look without regular trips to the clinic.

Is it for me?

Hair simulation treatments are primarily geared towards men, but may also be an option for women who have lost hair through over-styling or alopecia.

Good to know

Hair simulation isn’t just for the top of your head – you can also use it to restore facial hair such as your moustache or beard.
