How does it work?
In comparison to many other [[treatments/a-z/type/medical-face/| cosmetic procedures]], the Chicago facelift is a fairly straightforward treatment. Performed under local anaesthetic, the operation removes a small amount of excess skin and lifts the lower two thirds of the face, before stitching everything neatly in place. Worried you’ll look a bit like Frankenstein’s monster? There’s no need to panic – the procedure will only leave behind a small, inconspicuous scar in front of the ear and in the hairline above the ear. Phew!
After the surgery has been completed, you will need to take it easy to give your new face time to heal. Your surgeon will provide you with a facial band to wear for the first four days after the procedure, and it’s a good idea to avoid any strenuous activity. You may also find yourself having to take painkillers in the first few days – after all, they do say ‘no pain, no gain’.
Although facelifts can’t halt the ageing process entirely, the results of this procedure can last for years – leaving people desperately trying to guess your beauty secrets. Ssh, we won’t tell them if you don’t...
Is it for me?
If you want to achieve a tighter jaw line and more youthful appearance without the ‘wind-tunnel’ look that some facelifts create, then this could be the treatment for you. Don’t forget, however, that the life span of a facelift depends a great deal on your lifestyle, as well as on possible genetic factors.
It’s important to consult with your surgeon before you decide to go ahead with the procedure – they will help you to make sure that it is the right option for you.
