Style yourself straight...without the headache. If you’d love to get smooth, silky locks but you’re wary of the formaldehyde in a Brazilian Blow Dry then Sam Brocato’s new Culinterrupted Smoothing System could be a great alternative.
The problem with formaldehyde is that it’s a strong-smelling chemical, known to cause health problems in humans when we’re exposed to it above certain levels. Sam Brocato, beauty industry veteran and multi-award winning hairdresser, disagreed with its use in hair products when the Brazilian Blow Dry first revolutionised hair-straightening four years ago - so set out to produce his own system – minus the questionable ingredient.
He took a failed demi-permanent straightening product and tweaked away at it until he discovered that mixing in a thick aloe vera face mask helped to weight down the hair. Don’t worry, the system has been adapted to include slightly more advanced ingredients (and it’s probably not advisable that you try rooting around in your bathroom cupboard in an attempt to formulate your own version) – but it’s still smell and fume-free.
A gel-like product will be combed through your hair when it’s wet, followed by a spray of keratin protein. Your hair will then be gently heated and voila! (2 hours later) no more frizz in sight.
The treatment is flexible, with temporary and semi-permanent options available – so even if you just fancy flirting with straight hair, Curlinterrupted could provide the answer. Suitable for both wavy and curly hair, the amount of product used can be adapted depending on the length and texture of your mop.
The gentle formula doesn’t even require gloves or a patch test, so you can walk in knowing your scalp is in safe hands.
