Bootcamp Workout description

Sir, yes sir! Bootcamps were once something only associated with the army – but now they’re also a popular fitness fix. An intense way to work out, a bootcamp combines cardio exercises with resistance training to improve stamina, tone muscles and aid weight loss. Time to start practising those press-ups...

How does it work?

Although they aren’t quite as scary as they sound, bootcamps are no place for slackers. During a class, your trainer will take you through a series of different exercises such as sprints, sit-ups, push-ups and squats - all designed to increase your heart rate and burn fat. You’ll also be guided through some strength exercises to tone your muscles – perfect for turning you into a lean, mean exercise machine. It’s hard work, but it’ll be worth it...

Does the thought of someone shouting at you whilst you do sit-ups in the mud make you want to cry? Don’t worry, there are plenty of different bootcamps out there, so it should be easy to find something that suits you. Whether you are looking for a one hour fat burning session, an intensive week long course or a women-only environment, there’s a bootcamp available to cater to your needs. Of course, if even the thought of a low intensity workout has you shaking in your boots, it could be a good idea to try something less demanding like swimming, walking or yoga.

Bootcamp classes are usually held outdoors – so prepare to work hard in the open air, come rain or shine. It’s a good idea to turn up in comfortable clothing with a towel and some water, as you’re sure to get a bit hot and sweaty...

Is it for me?

Bootcamps are a great way to motivate yourself if you tend to find it hard to stick to an exercise regime. Your trainer will help you to achieve your goals, and the group environment encourages both support and friendly competition.

Need to get into shape, fast? Whether you’ve got a wedding coming up or want to fit into that itsy bitsy bikini, a bootcamp is a great way to lose some pounds and tone up those wobbly bits. Spare tyre? What spare tyre...

Good to know

A sociable way to work out, the group setting of bootcamp classes also means they tend to be cheaper than hiring a personal trainer – great if you’re watching those pennies.
