Ashiatsu description

Give foot massages a whole new meaning. Ashiatsu is a barefoot back massage that will ease away tension in your back, soothe your muscles and send you into deep relaxation. De-stress and find out what feet can do for you for a massage experience like no other.

How does it work?

Based on traditional Chinese medicine, Ashiatsu, which means ‘foot pressure’ involves a therapist rhythmically stroking the pressure points on the body using their feet. The massage therapist will walk on your back using overhead bars for balance and support and to vary the pressure to your liking.

Once you’ve got your kit off and slipped under a sheet, the therapist will address key areas you want to be worked on and then end with a relaxing head massage. The use of aromatic oils will enhance your experience by allowing you to fully relax during your treatment, for anything from 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on your individual preference.

Benefits of Ashiatsu include alleviation of chronic back pain, deep muscle relaxation and improved posture due to the methods used which elongate the spine. The treatment also releases the toxins locked up in the body so it’s recommended that you drink plenty of water after the treatment.

Is it for me?

If you’ve been unable to benefit from other types of deep tissue massage or you are just looking to test an effective new therapy, Ashiatsu could be exactly what you need. Beneficial to people of all ages and sizes, Ashiastu is a popular choice among massage seekers. With its long list of benefits and its unusual treatment style, traditional massage therapy will never quite do once you’ve given this toe tapper a go.

Unfortunately, Ashiatsu is not recommended for everyone and those who suffer from conditions such as osteoporosis or who are pregnant may not be suitable. Always discuss your health history with your therapist before undergoing the treatment.

Good to know:

Ashiatsu oriental bar therapy was an early massage therapy used by Buddhist monks in China, Japan and Thailand.
