When it comes to booking a spa day, I\u2019m on the look-out for three key things: nice venue, indulgent treatments, and a relaxation space (ideally peppered with great snacks, and unlimited tea). This week, I headed to York Hall<\/a> in Bethnal Green \u2013 the East London offering of the Spa Experience chain \u2013 to see if I could add another place to my \u2018top spot\u2019 list. <\/span><\/p>\n

You receive applications of tightening serum and Cellutox oil, as well as a cold mask infused with caffeine and marine algae. This treatment focuses on detoxifying your skin, leaving it feeling smoother and refreshed.<\/div>\n

Though I’m all for glossy, modern touches, there’s something about a venue with history that’s right up my street. York Hall has got this covered.The venue opened in 1929 and became famed as an international boxing spot. Now, the hall is host to a swimming pool, gymnasium, various events and, a Turkish Hammam-style spa – my home for the day. \u200b<\/p>\n","video_content":"","block_picture":34814},{"block_title":"The spa","block_content":"

Despite its antiquated history – and keeping true to the traditional Hammam aesthetic – York Hall was far from dated. Following the steps down to the spa, we escaped the leisure centre upstairs, for tranquility below. Cream and grey interiors spoke ‘cosy’ to me, while the vast open space of each room (from sauna to steam) made for a great place to relax. A ‘thermal spa experience’ is promised at York Hall, and that’s just what I found. Steam room, sauna, ice fountain, plunge pool, monsoon shower and three ‘hot rooms’ – ascending in temperature – were all available for use. The Elemis Targeted Toning Tightener featured 90 minutes of scrubbing, rubbing, body-wrapping, massage and moisturising. Tightening serum and Cellutox oil were applied (packed with red algae and minerals to improve the skin’s texture), while the freezing-cold mask – applied to my thighs and arms – was a fusion of caffeine and marine algae to detoxify the skin. My therapist, Alice, was so knowledgeable, informing me step-by-step of the action she was carrying out and why. Though I didn’t drop a dress size – quelle surprise – my skin felt fantastic, and I’d definitely recommend for the ‘detox’ benefits. \u200b<\/p>\n","video_content":"","block_picture":34817},{"block_title":"The experience","block_content":"

York Hall Spa Experience is positioned as affordable luxury, and I agree. But, I’d lean on luxury (a lacking jacuzzi is the only downside I can think of). I was relaxed throughout, seriously enjoyed my treatment, the staff were wonderful, and the space was refreshing so, unless afternoon tea is a requirement (there’s no food on offer at this spot), I’d definitely recommend. \u200b<\/p>\n\n
