Cupping is one of the oldest methods of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), very beneficial, comfortable and safe deep tissue massage. It is applied for relieving local congestion by using glass or plastic cups to create vacuum on the skin, causing blood stasis and localized healing to take place. As an integral part of TCM, Cupping is used in conjunction with both Massage and Acupuncture, or on its own.
Fleshy areas on the body, such as the back, buttocks and stomach are the preferred sites for treatment. The skin is our largest organ, rich in nerve supplies, containing fluid, blood, blood vessels, connective tissue and muscles. By creating suction, Cupping is performed to drain excess fluids, loosen adhesions and lift connective tissue, bringing blood to stagnant muscles and skin.
It has been found Cupping to be effective in reaching up to 4 inches into the tissues, causing them to release toxins and activating the lymphatic system, which helps to clear veins, arteries and capilaries. It is also effective in stimulating acupoints to release muscle spasms and expel what is called external pathogens in TCM terms, such as Wind, Cold, Heat and Damp. Each acupoint with its internal nature affects the body in a particular way. The treatment of a combination of these points provides a powerful solution to many disharmonies and is extremely effective in achieving fast and long lasting results in many conditions.
Indications: Cold and Flu, Pneumonia, Bronchitis, Asthma, musculoskeletal pain, spasms, cramps, tightness, numbness and stiffness; gastrointestinal disorders; Hypertension; Headache; menstrual disorders; stretch marks; skin complaints It can loosen muscles, encourage blood flow, and sedate the nervous system (which makes it an excellent treatment for high blood pressure). Cupping is used to relieve back and neck pains, stiff muscles, anxiety, fatigue, migraines, rheumatism, and even cellulite. For weight loss and cellulite treatments, This treatment is also valuable for the lungs, and can clear congestion from a common cold or help to control a person's asthma. In fact, respiratory conditions are one of the most common maladies that cupping is used to relieve. After the treatment, Cupping will leave some bruise-like marks on the skin, which can last for a few days. This is nothing to worry about as they will completely go away.
