Massage or osteopathy?
I have some pain I would like resolved
If you have some pain that you would like resolved, osteopathy is likely to be more helpful. This is because a case history will be taken and an assessment will be carried out in order to discover what is causing the problem. This is essential in order to treat the problem effectively. We also need to ensure, as far as it is possible to do so, that you are safe to treat.
I would just like to relax
If you would just like to relax, massage is most likely to be the best option.
Therapeutic massage is normally more gentle than deep tissue massage, however the pressure used can be agreed between you and the therapist.
Your therapist will provide massage to induce a deeply relaxing experience and enhance your sense of well being. Positive touch has been shown to have many beneficial effects including lowering blood pressure and the hormone cortisol, which is released in response to stress.
A variety of techniques and pressure will be used, taking into account your personal preferences and how your tissues respond. You can tailor the massage, for example, full body, or neck, back and shoulders only.
Your first appointment will include an additional 15 minutes for some basic health screening questions at the beginning, to ensure, as far as it is possible that you are safe to treat. An hour appointment will include a 55 minute massage and a few minutes at the end to enable you to get changed, leave the room and the therapist to set up the room in time for the next client's appointment.
