Champneys Tring

Where to start!!

· Beautiful grounds
· Friendly Staff (that I encountered Nathan, Adam, Leanne)
· Adults only
· Spa facilities are good
· Treatment area is amazing

· Poor Beds
· Poor Bathroom conditions
· Meals are small (but I understand it’s a Health Spa with a Hotel as I was told) but I was still hungry.
· Promises were not kept by house keeping and still feel mugged off by management.

This was a birthday surprise for me and when I arrived I was excited and had high hopes as I have been to lots of Spa Hotels but I always heard good things about Champneys Tring (even though it’s really in Wigginton).

We arrived early around noon and on arrival we were checked in by Nathan who was very pleasant and friendly. He informed us our room wouldn’t be ready until 2ish which wasn’t a problem, he took our bags and when we arrived back they were in our room.

The first thing I noticed was that they had put us into a Twin Room with the beds just pushed together when my partner clearly reserved a Double, I called down to reception and was told this would be corrected (I made this call @4pm).

Nether the less I got ready for my treatments and got into one of the robes provided on the bed.

I’m a big man and the robe was a tad sung but I made due, on my way down to the treatment room a lady from house keeping saw me and asked me to follow her as that rope was unacceptable and took me to the laundry room where she provided me with a larger more easy my size robe.

I noticed they went up to 4XL in robes which I’ve never seen before and this pleased me as it’s the little things that make big impressions.

I was treated to 2 treatments a Hot Stone Massage (30mins) which was nice and an Aromatherapy Wrap (30mins) with was new for me but pleasant and relaxing, in all honesty it’s the atmosphere that is special here as I’ve had better treatment experiences else where.

The treatment prices are far.

I then returned to the room at 6pm and nothing had been done about the beds so I called down and was informed it’s been noted and House Keeping will deal with this as the beds just need to zipped together.

On our way out (7pm) I called down to reception to inform then we would be out for a few hours.

On our way back around 10pm I called ahead to Champneys to make sure the beds had been sorted and I was told that this had been sorted as it noted on the system so when I arrived back to the I was amazed to find NOTHING had changed the beds were still singles.

Once again I called down and Adam allocated us another room apologizing for the mix-up, I checked the bed in the new room and it seemed to be a double only to find in the middle of the night it was just a bed sheet holding the mattresses together also adding further pain and pure disgust to the night the bathroom toilet was damaged and faulty by this time I was very annoyed and just disappointed in the Champneys room standards.

After having a terrible nights sleep I reported these issues to reception and I was informed all room have single beds in but when a double is requested they simply zip the mattress together and place a topper on them then spread, I understood this but this is NOT what was done in 2 of the rooms we were provided, while they looked into this we had our breakfast which was really small and I ordered a Full English with poached eggs, nice but just not much on the plate being as it’s a health spa/detox place .

We then made use of the Jacuzzi, Sauna, Steam Room and out side Hot Tub .

On checking out the duty manager then offered us Champneys wash kits as a way of apology, we refused these then he offered us a later check out of 4pm and by this time we just wanted to leave.

My birthday night was awful and I’ve sleep better in Premier Inns, Thank you Champneys for ruining my birthday.

Since late December a manager of Champneys has been in contact with my partner who booked the night and offered us an upgrade on our next booking which is laughable as do you really think we are prepared to book another night at £150+ to be treated the same. It is noe February and no further contact has been recieved from the management team even after e-mail's from myself.


Anyone reading this look at other Spa’s like Whitlebury Spa, Northampton or The Swan, Bedford (has a nice but small spa)
