The Garage Spa
Visited Feb 2013
I recently spent a day at The Garage with a friend. We booked the rasul mud pit and a full body massage each. For us, it was quite expensive, so we wanted everything to be perfect. It nearly was....... but a few little aspects could be improved to make this spa stand out from the competition in the locality.
Firstly, I must say the staff are fabulous, very welcoming, friendly, helpful and will do anything for you. It was nice to see a male therapist there too and he was very helpful and has a lovely manner. The treatment rooms are gorgeous and the massage I had from Charlotte was the best ever, she is so professional, as are the other staff. The quality of furnishings and fittings throughout are lovely and the food served to us at lunch over in the hotel was superb.
However, a few points which personally I think could be improved upon: (mostly little things but they all add up to the overall experience) :
The lockers are tricky to open as they have no handle / knob
The changing rooms with shower all had empty bottles of shampp / body wash, no conditioner. We had to ask for some more. Only one hook, although a very nice hook!
The showers flood the floor so you have to be careful to move stuff back or it gets wet
In the wet steam room, the ceiling is already peeling and the floor is incredibly slippy
The outdoor hot tub, the jacuzzi bubbles only come on once an hour! and the vent in the bottom of the tub sucked my finger in and was a bit dangerous
There were no instructions in the mud pit and although the therapist had talked us through it, when the lights started changing colour and different things began to happen we realised we hadn't been listening and weren't sure what to do! A simple list of instructions on the wall would have helped. Again, the shower flooded under the door into the changing area and we came out to find our slippers floating!
Soft music playing throughtout the spa would be nice as the sound of extractor fans does not add to the ambience. Also, candles around the indoor hot tubs would make it more homely and cosy.
Our therapist had forgotten about our mud treatment and we had to go and remind her that we were still waiting.
I did emerge from the spa feeling very relaxed and my skin felt amazing. I have noticed since being at the spa that my asthma is so much better after being in the salt room, so I hope the benefits last.
Would I return to The Garage? Not sure, maybe if there was a special offer!
