Slaley Club & Spa at Slaley Hall

I was surprised that it was not standard to receive a gown & slippers as part of my spa day. I was told that my 'package' did not include these yet other spa days I have been to they have been standard. This did affect my enjoyment of the whole experience together with:- as follows:-
I was a little surprised at the condition of the towels which were painfully thin & had obviously been used and washed many more times than their lifespan had been intended. I would have complained if I were staying at the hotel and been presented with such a towel!
I was also surprised at the 'basic' state of the changing rooms - considering the sumptousness of the rest of the hotel - I felt this was lacking.
The 'snack/lunch' facilities were inside the spa area - which gave it a 'canteen' feeling which was again not what I expected from a De Vere establishment. Fine for a quick coffee - but no ambience for a nice lunch which my friend and I decided to partake of in the Hotel Bar. This meant changing out of a wet bathing costume and vice verse after lunch. However the sumptuousness of the Bar was well worth it - & the staff in there were faultless. This 'lunch' break allowed us to note the marked difference in facilities in the spa which we were already dissapointed in.
I can give you an example as the roof of the spa area was corrigated steel - giving the whole area a cold and unwelcoming feel and making the swimming pool quite dark.
I was glad I experienced the Slaley spa at a reduced rate as felt my £20 was worth it for the massage but the spa would not have warrented the extra expense.

I would recommend the hotel Bar for food and value and ambience to anyone but the spa for the reasons I have stated was not up to the standard I expected or have experienced elsewhere
