Blogger with a passion for beauty, food and anything pretty or unusual. I'm a Londoner who can't really imagine living anywhere else, but who likes to daydream about retreats in Kerala. Maybe one day...
A beautiful and unusual spa - I loved the Victorian tiling around the pool. The facilities were all extremely clean, from the well equipped changing rooms to the tranquil relaxation room (where I enjoyed flicking through a magazine and sipping on mint tea after my treatment). I had a great facial - my therapist explained to me which products she was using and gave me advice on how to look after my sensitive skin. I also enjoyed relaxing in the aromatherapy steam room and trying out the inbuilt seats with jets in the pool. A really lovely experience - ideal for de-stressing.
The spa was beautiful, with a lovely relaxation area, spacious changing room and atmospheric, candle lit treatment rooms. The staff were very happy to help, pointing out facilities and generally making sure I had everything I needed. My back, neck and shoulder massage was the firmest I've ever had (and actually hurt at times!) but was beneficial in ironing out knots and leaving me much less tense. All in all, a lovely venue - ideal for a bit of luxury pampering.
Having never tried out kinesiology before or been to Stepping Stones, I had no idea what to expect. My therapist was unfortunately 20 minutes late, but more than made up for it with his skill and knowledge. I found the lifestyle consultation at the beginning of the session very useful, as it covered diet, sleep patterns and work habits amongst other things. This was followed by a massage tailored to my aches and pains, as well as some muscle therapy, breathing techniques and assisted stretching - all of which I found to be immensely helpful.
My therapist was careful to talk me through each stage of the session, and made lots of helpful suggestions as to how I could improve different areas of my life. I left feeling physically relaxed and mentally uplifted, and will definitely be going back.
Those looking for pampering and luxury may find Stepping Stones a little clinical - but if you are looking to improve your health and wellbeing, I highly recommend it.
I headed to Hectick to have my shoulder length hair cut into a short crop - always a bold move if you're trying out somewhere new. Luckily, my stylist excelled himself. I showed him a picture of how my hair used to look and he got the idea straight away.
My hair was shampooed by a girl with a head full of beautiful curls (it's always reassuring to see hairdressers with great hair) and then Mike got to work on the cut. He did a great job, and I'm really pleased with the results.
During my trip to the salon I was also offered some colouring advice, and given some samples of products such as wax and volumising shampoo to try out - always a bonus!
The salon is easy to find, and when I discovered a road was blocked off for a Christmas display the staff helpfully redirected me. I'll certainly be going back when my crop starts to grow out!
I'm really pleased with my Simply Soaps products and the service I received. The package arrived quickly, and the products are fantastic. I've saved some as gifts, but have tried the rose and geranium soap and the mint and oats soap, both of which I absolutely love. They smell fantastic and have really great properties - the rose and geranium softens the skin and the mint and oat exfoliates. Great to know that everything's organic, too.
I went to Therapy with my Mum as part of my hen weekend. The salon/spa has a very relaxing atmosphere, with lavender essential oils hitting you as soon as you walk through the door. The staff were very welcoming and acomodating, and my therapist Nadia instantly made me feel at ease.
I had a luxurious hot stone massage, which began with a relaxing foot soak. Not only did the 90 minute massage leave me feeling deeply relaxed, but it also worked wonders on my muscles. I suffer from chronic pain, and after the massage felt the best I have in 9 months. Want another one now!
My mum was really pleased with her Tibetan head massage - said it helped her a lot with her stiff neck and shoulders. The results of her manicure were beautiful.
We will be definitely be going back to Therapy in the future for a beauty and relaxation fix!
I went to Aloka to try the Aura Soma colour consultation. This wasn't something I was familiar with or had done before, but I was fascinated by the concept of using colour to find out more about myself. During the consultation, I was asked to select certain coloured bottles, from which the therapist was able to deduce certain things about me, which we then talked through. The results were surprisingly accurate.
Aloka has a peaceful yet friendly atmosphere - it's exactly the sort of place I would want to go to escape stress. Plus, they have a fantastic cafe and restaurant, so you can load up on tasty yet healthy food, too!
I went to JINNYlash expecting it to be a noisy salon where I would be expected to chat whilst I had my treatment done. I was therefore very pleased to discover that the atmosphere is designed to be a calming one, with soothing music and no unnecessary chit-chat. It was therefore a pleasure to have this treatment done after work, rather than an extra thing to fit in to a busy schedule.
My thereapist was very gentle and the treatment was not uncomfortable at all. I was pleased with the results of my eyelash extensions, and have had lots of compliments on them. I would definitely recommend this treatment to those looking for longer lashes that nonetheless still look natural, particularly for a special occasion.
I used to get my hair cut here when I lived in the area. I had short hair, which can be so tricky to get right - but I always left pleased with what the stylists had done. The staff were friendly, and charged much less for a quick trim than a full re-style - something I wish that other salons would do more often.
I also received great advice from one of the hairdressers when I was considering colouring my hair. The only thing that would put me off continuing to go there now I have longer hair which doesn't require so much maintenance is the price - at £50-£60 a cut it's not the cheapest. However, I much prefer O' Sullivans to some of the bigger chains that charge just as much.
