Some aspects were disappointing - threadbare towels, tatty robes, no slippers (flip flops produced on request), no toilet paper in one of the loos, no soap in the ladies changing room, conditioner had run out in the shower, changing room and reception area very cold, steam room and sauna not warm enough to sit in when we first tried to use them.

However, the gentleman at the spa reception all day was extremely helpful and tried to rectify everything we told him about. The treatments were great.

Shame the overall experience was not more luxurious and did not reflect the grandeur of the hotel. The day was let down my a number of basics not being right.

Lovely old castle in a great spot, very romantic! Parts of the castle exterior could do with a bit of tlc but the interior is well kept, clean and very in keeping with the castles character. The spa could do with a bit of attention in particular a good clean but that didn't affect our lovely relaxing afternoon we had, the therapist who did our treatments was an absolute professional and so lovely, the treatment was one of the best I've had! Lunch and wine was pleasant too! Berties afternoon tea and evening meal was also delicious, all in all we had a great couple of days and would Def go again.

The staff were so friendly and kind and the overall facilities were great. My only downfall was the sauna wasn't working and only 1 hot tub. This didn't matter too much as it wasn't busy when we went. The copper bath was lovely but as I was with my mum not a partner, I could have done with either a wider bath or a separate one. The massage was amazing and the girls that did it really knew what they were doing and we both felt so wonderful afterwards. Food was gorgeous, hats off to the chef! Staff were quite happy to assist us in anything we needed.
Overall a fantastic experience and my mum had a birthday she won't forget
Thank you

Therapists lovely andprofessional and excellent. Hotel shabby and in need of an update. Asked for our glass of wine as per package with lunch and was told it wasn't in our package. Felt awful, like we were trying to get something free.

Good comfortable room, breakfast lovely. Used the gym which was good, but thought that the Spa was a little tired. Only the jacuzzi and cold plunge pool was used and the sauna and steam room.
Massage was excellent and the lady who did was friendly and polite. Staff on the reception of the spa did not seem to do much- some dusting and removal of cobwebs were an option!!!

My third visit to this venue, this time with my partner for the Retreat Spa Day for 2.
The day prior to our visit, I was emailed a reminder regarding our booking, and was also informed that the steam room wasn't working, and given the opportunity to change our booking to another day, which I thought was considerate of the venue.
We chose to visit anyway as we had other arrangement in the area during the weekend.
We arrived early, my partner completed his forms, then we made use of the spa facilities before our treatments.
The copper bath ritual in the VIP Suite was lovely... though the pop up plug does tend to pop up very easily !!!
Our treatments were wonderful, so relaxing that apparently I slept through half of mine :-)
Following our treatments, we had a light lunch, which was a choice of either a sandwich or a salad. We weren't offered a glass of wine with our lunch which should have been included, but I chose not to enquire about it as I was driving and couldn't drink anyway - I'm sure that if I'd asked, it would have been sorted.
We then had a lovely snooze in the relaxation room before we left.
The spa itself was very quiet, despite there being a wedding and a conference in the hotel itself - we only saw one other couple using the spa facilities during our time there.
In all, a lovely relaxing day, and we'll be back again :-)

the treatment itself was absolutely amazing, I took my boyfriend on a couples retreat and he absolutely loved it. However there are a few complaints regarding the spa itself, half of the facilities were out of use which was quite a bit disappointing. Our treatment was delayed by half an hour as the copper bath we had booked on wasn't working properly. Many thanks for having fixed it in record time as it was a lovely experience, nonetheless it is not the most ideal thing you want to heard when you are going for a relaxing treatment. They offered proseco which was a nice treat. Treatments were lovely but perhaps the spa itself needs a bit of overall TLC.

The massage was lovely but we were rushed into our treatments and we were given lunch in the reception area, which was a bit odd. I didn't feel fully relaxed sitting and eating in my robe as people came in and out. I really think that lunch should be provided after the treatments in a separate dining area, so that guests can dress and enjoy their food. The products used are really nice and the girl who gave me my treatments was very friendly. However it was very busy and other members of staff seemed distracted. The coffee machine needed re-filling and there was nobody at reception when we came to pay.

Visited with a friend for a spa day with afternoon tea. After relaxing in the hot tubs, sauna and steam room, we each received a complimentary foot treatment, then an express facial and a wonderful back, neck and shoulder massage. There was plenty of complimentary soft drinks available, and a lovely relaxation room with comfy loungers. After our time in the spa, we made our way back into the bar area of the hotel, where we were served a wonderful afternoon tea by very attentive waiting staff. If you have chance, take a walk around the grounds and say hello to the beautiful peacocks.
To sum up, it's a lovely location with excellent staff - I intend to visit again soon !

Very relaxing, especially liked the relaxation room as you could relax in private behind a curtained bedded area. A pool would have made it better. But overall a brilliant day. Staff wonderfully attentive, lunch was well presented and delicious grounds were an added bonus. Therapists were very professional and gave excellent treatments. Would definitely go again.
