I agree with all the previous reviews. Shabby salon. I never visit the same salon twice because I am never happy with the final product. However, there was a guy working in the Westfield Stratford branch (now closed) who dyed and cut my hair (with my head upside down!). He was tall, quirky, in his mid 40s, foreign (greek.. maybe Italian, I can't remember) and his name, I think, was Georgios. He did the best cut and colour I have ever had and since the salon closed I haven't been able to find him since. Someone please help me find him!!!

A few years ago I went to Ealing Broadway branch; they were so unprofessional!
They lady who did my hair colour she chemically burnt my scalp and I had hair loss for months! I didnt know what she was doing; I trusted her as she was clourist and one of the directors. She applied the bleach directly my scalp and left it for many hours as I have very thick hair. When they washed my hair I could see my hair was stretching and lost loads of hair. I still thought it was ok; as I trusted her. Then she put toner on my hair and she was massaging my scalp; it felt like my scalp was coming off! already had bleach on my hair for many hours and my scalp was irritated! my whole face was red. when she put the toner it went all over my face and nearly in my eye and when the assistant help her to wash my hair; water ran all over me and my clothes got wet. I was so exhausted for spending many hours in the salon, felt sick I just I wanted to go home. I felt something was wrong; I paid (so expensive) and I went home, I realized I had blisters on my scalp and hair loss. I had brassy hair underneath and not same tone through the top layer. I made a complain and they said; we can offer you free treatment! I tried to sue them later; all the letters sent by my solicitor were ignored as they replied and said its no head office here and the company no longer based here.. I couldnt be bother to find a better solicitor as at that point I had to deal with many other things... So unprofessional and wont recommend!

I agree, a shabby salon. I don't suppose there was a male hairdresser there at all? Tall, quirky, in his early 40s, greying hair... he did the best cut and colour and since the salon closed at the Stratford Westfield branch, i haven't been able to find him!

its very very bad Hairdressers. I went to the Ginger Group 5 years ago to do Highlit & Colouring and cut blow dry, I have paid so much money as they were acting if is they know what they do and experianced. it took me 5 years to get my hair in to good condition after they damaged my hair badly ...it was the day before the newyear day and my hair was horrible they cut it very badly that never grew afterwards and used very bad products for colouring . they were doing my hair carelessly and with no attention.. they were having a laugh btween them afterwards . I felt very sad and disappointed and my hair looked very damaged . and because they were about to close they didnt want to hear anything they gathered like group of criminals to take my money they didnt even dicounted the price even though it was very clear to me and them that they have damaged my life for 5 years . be very careful and dont go there

Hairdressers are very rude at Ginger groups. Never ever will go or recommend going their. I was told she can't spend more time on my haircut as her other client is waiting ..

I dropped in on spec last week to the Westfield White city salon for a well needed re style! It was a bold and risky move, but I have to say it is the best cut I've had in years! Thank you Amy. She listened to what I wanted and delivered a fantastic cut - what the last few visits to T&G could not deliver. The price was standard, and the receptionist very helpful,

Yes the ambience is different, so it's their brand or chosen style - the only query I had was the height of the mirrors - but overall well done Amy! I do live a little far from the salon but I will do my best to return for the next cut.

I've also got to say - on my soap box for a moment - review sites are good, but more and more these days the general public are less tolerant, easily influenced by someone who felt they had a bad experience and very quick to criticise! Try talking to the individuals next time and discuss why and what, with some positive criticism only we can help improve services. :-)

WORST EVER

I feel so angry at myself!
Why why why didn't I read the reviews before stepping into this place!
£85 down the drain and now I am left looking like a witch just before my holiday!!

worst salon
very dark, mirrors are so high you can't see yourself (and I am 5ft 8inch)

worst staff
the girl who did my hair was just not interested.
she kept on walking off to speak to other clients, chat with colleagues, check her iphone, clean her top.
other staff were busy looking at themselves in the mirror checking their skin, shaving their beards (yes! unbelievable)
on top of that they were making fun of customers as soon as they left the salon or while still in there!
utterly unprofessional

worst service
i was promised something, i came out looking the opposite way- the girl doing my hair didn't look one bit confident in what she was doing - blamed it on my hair, the sun, my shampoo, the weather, my previous hairdresser (who unfortunately is away on holiday)
i blame it on the fact that i went in as a brunette looking to remain one and i came out pitch black and made feeling guilty about it.

overall experience
worst hairdressers ever
i wish i could give negative stars

DO NOT CROSS THE THRESHOLD.

This was the worst haircut I've ever had. The hairdresser spent most of the haircut speaking to his assistant in Italian, so I couldn't understand a word he was saying. He asked me what I wanted and I told him I'd like to have my hair layered, with a little bit taken off the bottom. he took 5 inches off! and didn't add any layers!

I spent most of my haircut standing up. (never had to do this before) and then when he finally let me sit down, I couldn't see into the mirror in front because they're too high up on the wall.

The way this salon is set up is disgraceful. not only the poor mirror positioning (I basically had a blind haircut) but also no air-conditioning throughout. Being a VERY hot day in July, it was unbearable sitting in that hot black cape that they made me wear.

For the money you have to pay for a basic haircut, it's just not worth it. I am a VERY unhappy customer. and won't be recommending this salon to anyone.

I'm so sorry you had to deal with that. It's a nightmare trying to find hairdressers that you're happy with. I never visit the same salon twice for that very reason. Did he have a quirky sense of style, greying hair and was he in his early 40s? If he was, I need to find him because he cut my hair really well.

To echo others' unpleasant experiences and cast out a further *WARNING* - The Ginger Group appears to conduct it's business in an unscrupulous fashion. I received a very good haircut, however, it came at a very swift price. Based on my experience and what is written in the reviews for each of the London Ginger Group salons, if you choose to go here be aware of the following:

1. They advertise prices of Stylist £40, Style Designer, £45 and Art Director £55 for women's haircut and blow dry on their website and on the cards which state 'Ginger Group' in their respective salons, HOWEVER, make sure you:

a. ask for the name of the person who is going to cut your hair;

b. ask what their position/level of stylist they are;

c. ask how much each service individually and collectively will cost;

d. write the 3 above down before having the service performed and to be ultra safe, go obtain that EXACT amount in cash prior to the service being performed;

e. if they switch your stylist at any point, confirm that the price quoted will remain the same;

f. ask for an itemised print out of the services provided and corresponding fees as well as the name and positision/level of the stylist who performed them;

g. pay in cash what they quoted you previously;

h. If you have to pay by credit/debit card, then ensure you SEE the amount they enter and if it is not what you agreed then refuse to pay it.

2. I witnessed the staff telling other customers that the card machine was broken, asking them to go get cash (if I were you, I'd just 'go' at that point and show the Ginger Group a bit of it's own medicine. ; )).

3. I overheard one stylist speaking on the phone stating that their manager had instructed them to charge all female customers £55 for all haircuts - that they were all 'art directors.'

4. This is the only London salon I have ever been to where the stylist does not tell you their name or give you a card with their name on it (had I not experienced and witnessed these other unpleasant things, I would have been a very happy repeat customer based on the haircut alone). The underhanded antics are a shame and gives London a bad name to those visiting, as it appears they are more interested in turnover and cash in hand than continued loyal patronage.

It seems from the reviews that this is prevalent across the salons and that their is no watchdog looking out for the consumer, so please do take the above and the other comments (about vouchers and such) to heart.

Finally, unsure what this may be indicative of but for some reason the website, business cards, and store signage indicate "Ginger Group," however, credit card receipts indicate "Bridgewater Hair and Bea."

I booked in an all over colour at the Stratford Westfield branch, and a member of staff confirmed that they had a 50% off hair colour appointments on Wednesday and Thursday evenings so I proceeded to get a time in.
I went to visit the salon the day before my appointment a tall male colourist sat me down and showed me their colourbook and again reassured me of their 50% offer. The reason I went in person the day before my appointment was to double-check and choose an all over colour for my dark hair. I saw in their bookings diary that they noted down 50% off next to my name.
I arrived for my appointment and was served by a tentative colourist (female), she was good in mixing the colour hair dye and kept checking I was okay. Then I was left alone for colour development time (quoted for 30mins) but waited about 45mins until their staff realised I was unattended for so long. I reminded them that I had to go timely.
Anyhow, a male person washed my hair and blow-dried it. I had asked for a rough-dry but he proceeded with a full-on blow-dry. He was good at his job.
But the management were dodgy, at the till they demanded I pay full price much to my shock. They said their deal was over even though I mentioned twice his staff had confirmed it to me at the time of my booking and initial in-person colour consulation.
It seems this salon creates prices according to how much they feel they can get from you and revoke their offers at the last minute. I was very disappointed and spoke to the manager who said he'd take off £15 but that I would not get the full 50% off.
This was unexpected and unprofessional in that they pulled the offer on me just like that. They seemed mystified that I booked in for the deal even though their on-site staff and confirmed the deal. I would have been happy to have used this salon as my regular place as it is convenient in the mall but after the way I was treated regarding full payment when a deal was promoted, I will not be going back there.

I'd warn future customers to be careful of their charging structure and revoking of their promotions without informing you. I was misguided by their staff and they did not honour the deal. Seems very cowboy! A shock at the till awaits you.
I have been to Rush salons in the oast and they always seem to be clear about their deals and professional in that sense.

I bought a voucher via Groupon for half a head of high lights, cut and blow dry, also included was a ‘conditioning treatment’ and a ‘toner’. The stylist began with the highlights and finished extremely quickly. I had to feel how many foils she had put in as I couldn’t actually see what she was doing – the mirrors in this salon are so high you only get to see the very top of your head which is unbelievable !! Immediately I could tell that I had no where near enough foils in as I normally do with half a head. I upgraded to a whole head for £20. I pointed out I usually had a toner but this was refused, I also asked where my conditioning treatment was ? I was told I’d ‘just had it’, just a normal conditioner out of the salon bottle at the taps. Back for a cut and style, still couldn’t see what she was doing to my hair. When she finished she didn’t even show me the back of my head. I have a distinct line still at my roots from the old re growth despite having a full head of high lights. The voucher says 2.2.5 hours treatment time, I was out in 2 hours despite upgrading.

The entire experience was completely unsatisfactory, whether it was because I was a Groupon customer, but I certainly felt like I was getting a very basic service. In truth it’s the worst salon experience I’ve ever had, I had high hopes for the Ginger salon but sadly I won’t be revisiting.

I also have phoned and emailed the head office in Ealing to be told on a few occasions that somebody will be contacting me, nobody ever has. Ginger Group just do not care. Groupon are advertising again with Ginger, - be warned !

Absolutely the worst hairdressing experience I have ever had. Unbelievably rude and unattentative staff. I waited 15 minutes for someone to come to the front desk to receive me as the staff all seemed too busy chatting to bother to come over even though I made eye contact with three of them when I came in.
The staff seemed completely disinterested and disgruntled and then told me because I was 5 minutes late I wouldn’t be able to get the full treatment I had booked for (even though this was due to noone coming to serve me and I had booked a two hour time slot to get highlights done). I was told they only had time to do a trim in the remaining time.
The salon was not even busy and they were taking many walk-ins so I was really disappointed the staff just didn’t seem to care.
The girl washing my hair was so rough and I got no head massage as advertised. The trim took 10 minutes with no conversation or care at all. I was so disappointed for the price. As I had a big event to go to on the weekend I ended going elsewhere to get it re-done as could not trust the dismal hairdressers to fix it.

I have always had issues around having my haircut and until I was 27 would try a different place everytime. I would leave it as long as possible between cuts and spend most of the time in hats even though I have good hair. I found ginger group one day before an important interview, I started driving from my flat in Notting hill, passing through every shopping parade and looking in every hairdressers for one that looked ok until I reached Ealing broadway three hours later.
I went in with a mullet and came out looking like a film star...
Since then I have had my haircut by James everytime and when he moved to the Westfield I followed. He is an ultimate professional and his skills amaze me everytime.
I am a chap and always get comments from girls on my hair, also I have been stopped in a shop by a hairdresser who told me I had a great haircut.
I find James a joy to chat with and even look forward to haircuts now.
Alot of people are giving bad reviews on the basis of their groupon experience which is unfair.
In short:
if you want an amazing cut or colour go and see James at ginger, you will get great results and value for your money.
Perhaps if you have clubcard points or vouchers you should go to tesco?

Well Luke, I think The Ginger Group shouldn't confuse themselves with Tesco and offer money off vouchers if they can't deliver.

absolute worst haircut of my LIFE!!!! they've given me the most grotesque layers circa 1992 (think rachel from friends only way shabbier and more uneven). the girl (who looked about 13) ignored my request to tone down layers and i couldn't actually see her hacking away due to the fact that the mirrors are too high to actually look into. Absolutely appalling service, she didn't even introduce herself, didn't even observe my hair when it was dry and as i was explaining what i wanted she actually interrupted me to have a conversation with another member of staff who was passing by. It was boiling hot, no one offered me even a glass of water, my hair is RUINED and will take years to grow back. i felt like crying! and to top it all off ... it cost me 55quid to have my hair butchered into millions of shabby, feathery little layers. THANK YOU GINGER GROUP - you bunch of idiots should be shut down ASAP.

This was one of the worst experiences I have had at a salon ever! Today I visited the Westfield salon for a Brazilian blow dry - what a mistake. firstly, I had purchased a Groupon Voucher and had to wait 5 months before the salon could fit me in! I complained to groupon at the time but got no response from them, so I kept the appointment as I'd already paid for it.

I rang to confirm the appointment the day before as nobody had contacted me in 5 months and didn't trust that they were aware I was coming. They were rude to me on the phone.

I arrived 10 minutes prior to the appointment and waited for 20 minutes for manager/owner to arrive at the salon. I gave them my voucher which seemed to cause distress....they weren't aware I had a voucher even though I had made this clear at the time of booking. I was made to feel very uncomfortable and got the impression they felt I was wasting their time from that moment on.

I was passed to someone for a wash, someone else for a rinse, back to the manager/owner a cut and to put the treatment on, someone else for a blow dry and back to the owner/manager for ironing. I felt like no one was really interested in me or what I wanted - I was given to any one who had nothing to do at that moment. Nobody spoke to me or smiled in the entire visit.

The cut took about 5 minutes...the blow dry and ironing another 20 and the overall impact was extraordinarily disappointing. I had read a lot of articles and watched videos on youtube about this process and knew it should take between 2 and 3 hours if done properly. There was no attention to detail what-so-ever in this treatment. A guy came in for a cut at the same time as me and we were finished at the same time....just not possible if my treatment ws done properly!

At the end of the vist my hair still felt sticky with the treatment fluid and I had to go home to iron it for myself to make sure all the fluid was sealed into the hair and to get the bits of hair that were not ironed in the first place.

NEVER, EVER AGAIN!!!! Do not use this salaon - they are rude, have no intereset in their customers and do not do a quality job.

I went to the ginger group in Westfield shopping centre after I had been for a colour change at another top London salon which went horrendously wrong and left me with orange and white highlights and black in-between, I was greeted by a very dismissive receptionist who didn't seem to know exactly what was going on and couldn't cope with seeing to me and answering the phone at the same time after waiting for her to finish with the phone call, about five minutes, she then told me that i wasn't booked in although i had called only hours earlier and had spoken to her about my problem she then told me to sit on the couch which i did i was not offered any magazines or drinks and not asked if i would like my coat to be taken,she then went back to playing on her phone, not a good start I'm thinking, after a couple of minutes a stylist came to reception and asked who I was waiting for his name was Grant , i explained what had happened with my appointment and he said he would look after me, he then led me into the salon and apologized for the poor treatment at the reception and explained that she was inexperienced , untrained and not of a customer service background, he totally put me at ease and restored my confidence that i had made the right choice in going there,I explained what had happened to my hair in my previous visit to a salon, and he said there were a couple of options he could do and that it was not a problem but i must strengthen the hair first, with an intensive conditioning treatment and then we could colour it, he seemed so professional i decided to get it done there and then and because he offered me a complimentary cut it was all the sweeter, I was then taken to the basins to be washed (an OK experience as the basins are very uncomfortable) and led back to Grant's chair.
which i must say are not the best dressing table's I've sat in as the mirrors are way to high and had Grant not put a little mirror in front of me I would not have been able to see anything,
Anyway Grant said he would take off about an inch on the lengths and scoop out the layers! using slide cutting and that would get rid of the worst of the over processed hair, he started cutting my hair and I could see he really knew what he was doing, Imagine jack sparrow crossed with Edward scissor hands, he then explained that his assistant was going to dry it off and apply the treatment and after that he would put a colour on after having this thick milky stuff put on my hair and dried with a hair-dryer to make it hard (a strange sensation) I was then taken back to the basin's to have it washed and Grant put the colour on while it was processing grant took the time to have a chat with me about my job and other thing's which made me feel that he cared about me, not something i get in hairdresser's often, he explained he had been hairdressing a long time and because of this the company moves him around a lot, not something he likes but part of the job, he had just come back from Windsor and was expecting to be moved again soon, he said he had been trying to change things but all the good people leave before he has a chance to convince them things will change, after about 30 minutes my hair was washed again and I was taken back to my chair, Grant put some nut oil on it and expertly dried it off, my hair looked and felt wonderful, the colour although still dark looked much more natural and blended with my skin tone much better the cut was supreme and the condition was soft and silky thank you Grant.
I was then led back to reception and handed over to the same girl as I saw when I came in who was still on her phone after a bit of a wait (apparently the receptionist doesn't know the price's) I was asked to pay £120
which I didn't mind paying because I felt I had got twice that cost in service but when I tried to rebook with Grant I was told I could not as the book had not been written out that far in advance (six weeks) I then asked for a card with Grant's name on it but they had run out of them, more screw up's at reception.
altogether not a bad experience but they need to get a new receptionist as she is doing nothing for the professional standing of the salon and they could sort out the wash basin's and the dressing tables and mirrors, my advice to anyone going there is to be careful as from what I saw some are excellent (Grant) and some are absolutely rubbish not caring about there clients, and treating there work like a production line,
I would like to go back to Grant when I need another cut but I fear if they keep the same receptionist as when I went first time then I'll be booked in with someone else, If at all and I'll be back to Square one, with hindsight I should have got Grant's personal number so I could book direct with him as I'm not big on trusting hairdresser's and I don't want anyone else to style me, so when I ring back and they tell me Grant has been transfer 'd then I will be going there where ever that may be. It's such a shame that this once great name in hairdressing through indifference and ignorance is going down the pan.

A few weeks ago I finally used my Groupon voucher after 4 months of trying to book an appointment, I know that they do not allocate much availabilty of the voucher so even though I was frustrated I thought this was a small compromise for getting a good deal, however I don't think I have ever left a hairdressers so disappointed! The person that applied the treatment was the junior hairwasher who managed to do the whole treatment within an hour applying the tiniest amount of keratine I have ever seen. I have had keratine applied at least 5 times and I know that it takes closer to 3 hours to apply and straighten the hair properly, this was obviously a rush job to get me in and out as soon as possible and consequently the treatment has had no effect on my hair whatsoever. I was then asked if I wanted a cut, the cut was performed by somebody who would obviously rather be doing anything else then cut my hair and he proceeded to cut my hair with the fan still on from the treatment which was blowing my hair in different directions so my hair is completely different lengths all round ( the cut was finished in less then 10 minutes)

I would assume that the point of the vouchers are to drive business through customers having a brilliant experience and then recommending the salon to friends and family, if that was your aim then they have completely failed. If everybody experienced the same as me then I can't see how this could happen.

I found all the staff could not be bothered - apart from the receptionist who was the only one who was happy to do her job. As I said this is the worst experience I have ever had at a hairdressers the voucher was suppose to entitle me to a service which normally costs £265!

I was really pleased with the cut I got from a male stylist as he listened well to what i needed and it has been a very easy style to manage. i have short but very thick wavy hair so it needs to be cut well so it doesnt stick up in strange places! I also felt my haircut was individual to me and not just what ever the one style of the moment is.
I often have people trying to straigthen my hair all over which works for a few hours and then just doesnt sit right after that tony and Guy)
. My daughter recommended the cutting to me and she was right !
.I was less happy about the coloring which was quite expensive given it was very straight forward full head tint. However the overall look was great and loads of work colleagues and family commented how nice it looked.

I dont even know where to start. Purchased a Groupon voucher and finally booked hemel after trying about 4 salons and being told there was no availability until August. When I arrived I was told that the senior stylist I had booked had called in sick and I would have to have someone else and wait about half hour. I wasnt happy but agreed. The owner then told me that I would have to wait 45 mins to an hour. Eventually I was seen after waiting 2 hours and arguing with the stylist and the manager who was VERY aggressive towards me. They tried to make it up to me and the stylist who had only been there for 2 weeks and was trying did apologise. However when the treatment was put on my hair I thought a very little amount of product was used, also I did not think it had been left on long enough. I raised this and was told not to worry. I was then told to use a special conditioner without Sulphate and was given one. I have just washed my hair and it is EXACTLY the same. Also the conditioner they gave me has SULPHATE in it!!!!! A Joke.

I had a similar experience as other Groupon customers, I got the feeling I was being treated as a cheapskate as I had a voucher. The recepionist was very friendly but then I was seen by a young girl for my 1 minute colour 'consultation'. After I'd decided what I wanted I was told 'the manager says you can't have that 'cos you're a groupon' so I had to choose something different, not what I wanted at all. I had the colour put on, she said 'that stays on for about 20 minutes' then promptly put her coat on and left the salon. I wasn't offered a drink or magazine or anything. After about 40 minutes she returned smelling of cigarettes and took me over to the sinks to wash the colour off. While she was washing it she asked me how I wanted it cut - by this time I was a little worried so I just said a quick trim would be fine. I also found the hygeine of the place terrible, they were all scrabbling around borrowing brushes, clips and scissors from each other. The chairs are so low and mirrors so high that you can't see what is being done to you. The music is so loud I ended up with a thumping headache. I was also very surprised that a patch test was not offered for the colour. Also there was a box of customer cards in front of me on the bench from which I could see the names, addresses, phone numbers and birth dates of other customers - so much for data protection!! I have had few minor bad experiences of groupon deals but this is definitely the worst. I will not be going back there!

Terrible, i booked a last minute haircut there today as toni&guy were fully booked, i was kept waiting for 15extra minutes no apologize or drinks offered. When the girl called me to wash my hair she told me to take a seat whilst i was still wearing my outdoor coat! The girls who work there(kids should i say) were rude and continued talking & sitting on the wash stations and i had to ask to sit down. A soaking wet towel was then placed around my neck. I mentioned it was soaking and she went to get another yet i overheard them saying there were no dry towels & moaning. When she finally came back out she said she could wash it without a towel around my neck & clothing to which i complained & left! Shocking staff, filthy inside beyond belief. At £55 a trim i would definately expect better!
