Macdonald Houstoun House & Spa part of Macdonald Hotel & Resorts

Houstoun House Hotel was designed to be as relaxing as it is impressive. And few places are as relaxing as the hotel's leisure centre. Created around a wonderful 18 metre swimming pool with open views across the hotels grounds, the leisure centre includes sauna, steam room and gymnasium.

Set within 20 acres of mature woodlands, the hotel comprises a 16th Century tower house and steading. Retaining its original character and offering exclusivity and seclusion, it's hard to believe Edinburgh and Glasgow are within such easy reach. Close by are many places rich in history such as Linlithgow and its ancient palace.

Outdoors, you can enjoy a gentle stroll around the beautiful hotel grounds or take in a round at the nearby Uphall Golf Course. Inside or out, Houstoun House is a hotel to treasure.

This was a git luckily as would not have been happy paying the amount it was. I was disappointed with the lunch, the massage was very mediocre and the room needed updated (cant relax with squeaky floorboards).

We could not have asked for a better spa experience. The stay were super friendly from the massage therapists to the boys on reception. We knew the appointment times but when arrived, were told that lunch was going to 3.30pm after out appmnts, which would have been fine had we eaten, but the staff very kindly got the hotel menu for us and let us choose from that, even tho technically they shouldn't have.
The facilities were super clean. And the wahanda voucher was absolutely brilliant value, as I have spent double this amount for the same spa day before.
The treatments were amazing and so relaxing.

The spa at this hotel is a bit tired, we visited the Inchyra in Grangemouth a couple of weeks ago and there is no comparison. The room was situated in an area that we being renovated and the rooms tv was not working, this was replaced by a new tv although this only hilighted the amount of dust that was dislodged when the cable were being changed. The Manger did put a free bottle of wine on our table at dinner for the mix up with our spa appointments. This hotel has an excellent restaurant and the staff are great although they could get better with the housekeeping and answering the phone at reception.

Was a little disappointed no jacuzzi spa. Could maybe have made the day a little longer for more relaxation. Overall was nice day.

My friend is allergic to like and kiwi which she made the therapist aware of. Unfortunately she spent most of her time checking the ingredients of the products, which is fine, but it ate into the actual treatment time so my friend only got about ten mins of treatment which was very poor. They should not have allowed it to take away from the treatment time and prepare for things like allergies before hand. The pool area also only had about nine seats/beds in total so we had to sit on the pool floor for a time until something became available.

I took my mum for as a late Mother's Day gift. We had a fantastic time, lovely lunch and the treatments (back massage and facial) were great. Will go back.

My friend and I enjoyed our day. The afternoon tea was lovely and the treatments very good. Slightly disappointed there was no jacuzzi and the steam room was so hot and steamy it caught your breath. Overall it was good value for money.

This was a good spa. The lunch was really great, really great. Staff welcoming and it was relaxing. The 30 minute treatment paid for on top of the voucher only lasted 20 minutes and the inclusive treatments were different depending on which therapist you got. With the sole delight one person gave a head massage, the other didnt. Other than that its great value and worth it

The steam room, sauna and pool were all fine. The deep tissue massage was excellent. The overall day was ok but the massage was spoiled by loud talking in the room adjoining the therapy rooms. Lunch was not only delayed in that they had forgotten about us but savoury and sweet were served in an all in one tray resembling something you might get on a flight not in a hotel. Trying to purchase moisturiser also proved tricky as the chap didn't know how to work the till. Experience was more Fawlty Towers but with a very good massage.
