i had a awful experience in burlingtons boutique. i had a voucher for 37 pound for makeover and photo-shoot. on top of that they took 25 pound for deposit money.such a long wait i had my photo-shoot .trust me the photos was horrible .they were offering me to buy those photographs but i asked them only the free photograph which comes under voucher .after all these i was suppose to get my 25 pound deposit back which i haven't received yet ,its almost over 4 months. all the time i was calling them and asked about my deposit every time they take my number and say someone will get back to me but it never happened and during this some staff were rude to me on the phone.i am still waiting for my deposit ,its so irritating. so unprofessional .they never apologize to me in spite of that they say they don't know whats happening.no one should go to this boutique for makeover ,don't waste your time and money.

THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE CON.
Myself and friends were approached in Oxford Street by two Asian girls with pamphlets offering "special deals" offering free hair and makeup (with a £20 deposit in case of cancellation, which is understandable). We were then taken to the studio and SOLD A DREAM. Honestly, I don't know where the boutique got these two girls from but A* for the bullshite coming out of their mouth. They told us we would meet the runner up for America's Next Top Model who would coach us for a photoshoot, which at the time seemed believable given the fact that we were told celebrity clientele allegedly included the Kardashians and Holly Willoughby. This motormouth of a girl was going at 100 words per second honestly, but the shite coming out of her mouth seemed believable because the con artist was so optimistic which made you think "Hey, seems decent enough, she observes a headscarf too, so hmm she probably wouldn't rip us off". IF ONLY.

After asking us to pay a cash deposit which amounted to £60 among us (polite bitches even pointed us to the nearest atm machine, the considerate cows), we were told to book in with Burlington.

They call us early in the morning (we're university students on break who stay up late revising and could do with a lie in tbh) EVERY TWO DAYS repeating the same offer and providing us with information regarding the photoshoot. As part of ANOTHER SPECIAL DEAL they offer us a rollover photos, which means where you would normally pay £50 for on 5 x 7' photo, you can get two (oh, the generosity!!!). We agree, paying £150 between us, the photos are professional after all (and we were told the pictures could be blown up for free etc and together with the professional coaching, makeup etc it seemed not too bad an offer).

We pop into the boutique to confirm everything before our shoot, they say that these two girls no longer work for them - they were hired externally for two or three days. Turns out the £400 worth of photo credit promised to us was a lie, as was coaching from the runner up of America's Top Model. I ask about a refund - the photo credit is non-refundable, although we weren't informed of this at the time. THE WOMAN WE SPOKE TO LAUGHED IN OUR FACE WHEN WE EXPLAINED THAT THE TWO WOMEN WHO INITIALLY OFFERED US THE DEAL SAID WE COULD HAVE £400 OF PHOTOCREDIT. So professional.

Honestly, YOU'RE BEST AVOIDING THIS BOUTIQUE. They are awful. The woman we spoke to today was incompetant and disorganised as ****. Given the fact that we have paid £210 amongst ourselves and that the photo credit is non-refundable, we have no option but to got through with this. The lady completely ruined our day!!!

PLEASE NO ONE GO HERE!!!!! the place is dirty, they left us waiting for five hours throughout the day whilst getting out treatments done, then tried making us pay 3000 pounds for photos which were hardly professional, and have never sent us our free complimentary pictures we were supposed to have got. Made an excuse that no one had ever asked for a refund of their deposit before so kept us waiting for even longer pretending she was finding out how to do it, a month later and we still haven't got out deposit back, have told them trading standards are onto them as well as watchdog and now they will not answer the phone at all. Please contact me if this has happened to you as I want enough evidence to close them down!

Never got my £100 deposit back.
Everything here is a scam, do not go if you have bought a voucher (from groupon, wowcher etc.).
One of the worst customer service experiences of my life. All the staff seemed to be leaving constantly, so each email address I got to email staff kept being deleted!
I am a student and I was promised the £100 would be returned to me within 2 weeks. This has put me off doing any more voucher deals. They are just out for your money.

PLEASE do not go here!

PLEASE don't go there - read all the reviews below and none of these girls are lying about their deposit money not given back to them.
It's not a nice customer service and the worst salon I've been to!!! never again if you want to be treated badly and they're so ignorant!
Wasn't very happy with my hair as it was rushed either so please don't use it for anything!!!!

PLEASE AVOID THIS place at all cost - Manager Joe Rudwick is so rude and they will treat you like another number to get more money out of you!!!
Don't book yourself into any photoshoots with them - AVOID AVOID AVOID!! They're liars - will take your money as deposit that you won't ever see again... Please Please - we need to act to close this place now! I've taken that matter further to ombudsman and Trading Standards and hopefully they will shut it down!

DO NOT GO THERE! IT IS THE WORST PLACE EVER! DO NOT PAY FOR THE DEPOSIT! THEY ARE NOT GIVING IT BACK!

I went at the end of July 2015, together with a friend, based on an invitation for two I had purchased on the street. The invitation included manicure, facial, hair styling, makeup, photoshoot and complimentary image.

Upon arrival, my friend discussed with a staff member about her wish of not having the photoshoot, due to personal privacy reasons (they have the copyrights of the pictures). She was told there is no problem, as long as she forfeits her part of the deposit. We proceeded for our makeup and hair styling.

During our manicures, a staff member declared to us it is impossible for only one person to have the photoshoot and, if we do not both have it, we will lose all the deposit. I suggested we forfeit all the deposit, but I strongly wish to have my photoshoot. She vehemently claimed that is not possible, without any explanation as to why. She refused to call the manager and her behaviour was incredibly unappropriate. At this point our experience turned very sour.

I have checked their terms and conditions, both on the website and on the invitation, and there is no statement anywhere that both people have to go through all the steps, together. It is, indeed, stated that the deposit will be lost if we do not complete the session, but not that if one does not wish a certain procedure, the other cannot have it either. We were straightforward from the beginning in what we desire and we were told that can be accommodated. Only to be later told the opposite (again, I will emphasise the rude behaviour of their staff member, which was utterly uncalled for).

I will also mention that we have not received our facial treatment and that I had to ask for our manicures, as the stylists were not informed of them. Furthermore, I was told that if I buy two makeup products on the day, I will receive an invitation for two for a makeup lesson. I indeed bought (three) products, but have not received the invitation.

Since then, I have discussed with the manager, Joe Rudwick, by phone and emails several times and he promised to return my deposit. However, I did not receive it even after more than 6 months. I have also sent an official letter and I am ready to proceed with legal action. It is not about the money, but I had the worst experience ever and I was even refused to take the photoshoot. So I am not going to leave it.

Sorry to hear about your awful experience. I am going in April and totally regretting booking it in the first place (I was also grabbed on the street). I've had photo sessions before at proper studios but this sound like a joke of an operation. They told me the deposit gets 'filed to go back to you' on the day (if you don't want to use it for photos) and that it'll take 5 working days to hit your account. It sounds like this is a lie and they generally have no intention of giving deposits back unless threatened with legal action. Good luck and please let us now how you get on.

this is the worst place ever! do not go there!
they keep your details on their database and then try to tell you that you have a free photoshoot and makeover - which is NOT TRUE (spam!!!). they took the deposit off me for £50 (because it's for 2 people) and they have never refunded me. I have taken them to the Trading Standards and Joe Rudwick (the Manager, I think Owner) has promised me the refund before Xmas last year but I have not seen any of it plus he's avoiding my emails and calls.
I am not going to leave this as it's not about the money but the principle of good customer service!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE avoid the place at all cost!!!!!!!!

Oh dear. Seems like I have just been sucked into this scam. I was targeted on the street and sold this "experience" for 2 people (£60) and after months of being hassled with calls to book a date to use up the vouchers I relented and booked it, at which point they snuck off with my credit card details and put an extra £50 over the phone (supposedly a deposit to guarantee the booking). Looks like I will not be getting this deposit back easily... They also tried to take more money by offering a deal where you pay in advance for photos (because apparently they are all going to be amazing and you will definitely want to buy some in addition to your free one) and they 'double your money'. So if you give them another £50 they will add £50 so you get £100 to spend. I did not fall for that one thank goodness, but they will probably keep on bombarding me with calls to try selling it. Arrgggh.

Worst experience ever. Those that enjoyed it must have been at a different place. The day itself was fairly uncomfortable..they rushed it through. The only positives were the photographer was lovely and they didn't pressure us to buy more photos because it was the end of the day and I think they'd given up. The booking process was painful enough and they changed our appointment time without telling me. I also had 4 phone calls to confirm the appointment and each time she quoted a different time. One month on and I am still chasing my deposit...we haven't received the photos either, but I won't hold my breath given what other people have said. Seems like a good candidate for an episode of Watchdog.

Where are you at now with getting your money back. I had the same experience and they are now ignoring all emails and messages. Absolutely digraceful.

I had the same experience and I have gone to Trading Standards and sent them the formal 14 day letter asking for the refund. I am not going to leave this as it's out of the principle that they owe us money!
We should all go together in one day and speak to Joe Rudwick who is the manager/ owner and confront him about it... just an idea!

I finally got my money back on 14 Jan after threatening legal action a number of times. It followed a lot of broken promises about when I'd receive the money. It was the most infuriating experience but I can only suggest hassling Joe as much as possible until you get your money back. I've yet to see the free photos we selected on the day but I'm so beyond caring. Now I have my money I want nothing to do with this company. I reported them to Watchdog...would love to see them profiled on that show. It's a total disgrace!

I had the same issue and I did not get my deposit back. I have also sent the official letter threatening legal action, but still no response. I am going to report them at the Trading Standards.
@rack813 what did you do to receive the deposit eventually?

I just kept emailing and threatening legal action and eventually Joe caved. All I can suggest is keep hassling him. I think he only refunded my deposit because he was sick of hearing from me. Good luck!

I totally appreciate how frustrating the whole thing is but you're right not to give up. The company seems to think it can get away with what amounts to theft.

I finally got a response (have been sending emails and calling and even went it). I was actually finally called by Joe on Monday to get my details for the refund. The refund was being processed that day and so I was told should have been in my account later that day - still no sign of the money. I shall continue emailing and calling as although it is not a huge ammount of money, what they are doing is ilegal and on the scale that they are doing this they are earning a fortune. I seriously hope that they are investigated!!!

DO NOT DO THIS!
I was booked in for a photo-shoot where my hair and make up was done. This was probably the ONLY good thing about this deal, also the photographer was lovely.
The complementary 'wine' was cheap and only got one glass.
The photos took over 2 MONTHS to arrive which I was not informed about.
You are meant to put down a £50 deposit to do this deal however me and my friend have both not received our deposit back. It was meant to be returned to us 30 days later, and 3 MONTHS LATER I have still not revived it.
I have rang up multiple times since the 30 days had gone past and I have left my number several times and been told 'the manager will give you a call later that day' or 'the deposit is on the way'.
Staff have also turned around and been quite rude, unhelpful and very organised.
This is not worth it at all.

I am so glad I am not the only one that has experienced these issues. I've had to threaten legal action now over the deposit as they won't respond to emails and the helpline is rarely open for customer complaints...not surprising! We also had a fairly awful time at the salon where the photographer was the only nice person there. I hope other people don't fall for this awful experience.

I visited Burlingtons Boutique over 2 months ago now. I was give a voucher to have a full make over experience for my birthday. This included a consultation, hair styling, full make up and then a photo shot. Firstly the whole process felt really rushed. I didn't have a consolation. I was just sat in a chair where three different hair dressers took turns curling my hair (they kept wandering off to do other jobs and calling someone else over to finish the work). The make-up was no different to what I would normally apply for a day at work. Basic foundation, a bit of eye shadow and some lippy. Nothing that was special. Finally there was the photo shoot. It was awkward but fine. Afterwards I felt completely pressured to purchase items and photo packages and ended up spending an extra £100. I had already payed £50 when they called me the day before as they told me they would add an extra £50 of credit onto my account (which they did). It was implied on the call that this would cover the purchase of photos but the way they price and deliver their packages means that £100 does not get you anything really (£50 is A LOT of money for me - but it was my birthday so why not indulge a little). My gift pack that I was given already came with a free photo print - WHICH TWO MONTHS LATER I AM STILL WAITING ON. The whole thing was a sham and a complete let down for a birthday experience. If I had received my photo I feel like it would all be forgiven but the complete disorganisation of this establishment is apparent. The whole experience was a shambles. There are lots of far better places to go in London, for a competitive if not better price, and I suggest you use them.

Had my cut and blow dry here which was recommended by a friend. Didn't love it. Was looking for something a little different but got no advice on that. She just got on with the cut. Wasn't a bad cut but just wanted something a bit more.

My sister and I went for the makeover and photoshoot for 2. Bought a voucher on Wowcher for £26 and paid £25 each deposit (£50). Arrived at Burlingtons on time for the appointment on a Saturday and were told to complete a consultation form detailing the look we wanted. After about half an hour wait, someone came over and took us to get our makeup done. However this was not done together, we had to wait for another beautician to become available as they were ‘running late’. This meant I had my makeup done way before my sister did and had to wait.

I did not get the look I wanted and nor did my sister, tester sample make-up was used and it was really irritating that they tried to sell us the product throughout the session (at a price of £26 for a brush for example). I didn’t see the point in filling out a consultation form if we didn’t get the look we wanted.

For our hair we wanted sleek and straight. We were given a 2 minute iron with a straightening iron.

Another half hour wait before we were taken downstairs to the photographer who was also ‘running late’. So we waited another half an hour before he became available.

The photographer was rude, completely unprofessional, asked personal questions and gave absolutely no direction or any creativity. I brought 2 changes of outfit but only changed into one as I wanted to get out of there asap.

After the awful shoot which lasted 20-25 minutes, we were told that it would be an hour before our photos were ready for viewing. This was totally not part of the information we had received and meant that we had to leave and come back in an hour.

Came back after an hour and told to wait as the photos weren’t ready yet. Ended up waiting another hour therefore a 2 hour wait. This was totally unacceptable and I had to complain about the delay. We were repeatedly told it would take another ‘5 minutes’.

At around 7pm, we finally got taken to the viewing room to see the photos.

The photos were absolutely awful. We seriously could not believe how amateur, unnatural and unprofessional they looked with the exception of 2 or 3 mediocre ones. Incredibly, the staff member quoted a price of £50 each and £2000 for the whole package. I sternly said we’d like the free photos that came with the wowcher voucher and that I had already been telephoned and forced to pay a £50 deposit for the additional photo of me and my sister together. In fact the staff member himself asked us who the photographer was.

The entire day (from 2pm – 7pm) had been an entire waste of time. Do not go there for a makeover and photoshoot.

Fantastic salon - I was so pleased with my experience and will definitely be returning! Mun Leng was so lovely and friendly, and gave me really welcome advice on how I should style and care for my hair. The salon had a great atmosphere, and the wash, conditioning treatment, cut and blow dry I received were all of a very high standard. I have recommended this salon to my friends and will be making it my regular!
