It’s easy to think of arthritis as the slightly hilarious problem that keeps your Gran complaining about her gammy leg because, obviously, it’s not something that you need to worry about, right? Unfortunately though, arthritis can affect any age group and your daily routine could be damaging your joints without you even realising (she says, straightening up in front of the computer screen).
Luckily though, the 9th – 13th May is National Arthritis Care Awareness Week and the British Osteopathic Association (BOA) have released a new mobile app to help you take better care of your body, simply by changing a few of your bad habits. You’ll learn how osteopathy can keep your spine healthy and improve your posture with a series of video exercises - plus you can use the ‘find an osteopath’...

If there’s one thing that this country is bound to agree on, it’s that every month should be like April and May. The sunshine, royal wedding happiness and Bank Holiday overload have been brought together in an undoubtedly winning combination. We’ll even put up with constantly not knowing what day it is if it means we get this many days off in such a short amount of time.
Unfortunately though, it’s coming to an end. May 30th is our last bank holiday until August, so it’s worth making the most out of this one. And, guess what? Just because we thought you deserved a treat before delving straight into three months of Monday mornings, we’ve got nationwide spa breaks available from the 27th May so you can have an extra special long weekend.
You can spend two nights relaxing off the west...
Getting a perfect body isn’t easy. If it was, we’d all look like Megan Fox, ice cream sales would increase tenfold – and we wouldn’t have to freak out every time bikini season comes around again. But, unfortunately, the world is not that kind. Even if it’s just the few pounds of extra warmth you put on over the winter, losing weight requires a lot of effort and willpower, which is where we come in.
Studies have proven that getting support during the weight loss process relieves stress, encourages people to make wiser food choices and boosts physical activity – a winning combination for shifting unwanted wobble. Luckily for you, the Wahanda community is a great place to find your fitness back-up.
Our Q&A system makes it easy for you to get advice on any weight loss worries you may have...
If you’ve spent any time flicking through the pages of celebrity magazines lately, chances are you will have seen – and probably been incredibly envious of – one of the bodies that Matt Roberts has toned to perfection. Matt is the UK’s leading personal trainer and has written a range of bestselling books, with the latest being released this month. If like Wahanda you’re keen to get your body prepped for summer, you can find Matt’s Two Week Body Blitz free inside The Telegraph this weekend – so there’s no excuses not to start.
Saturday’s paper gives you a 52-page glossy booklet, featuring all of the...

We hold our hands up and admit it – there are several magazine addicts in the Wahanda office. If you’re anything like us, it’s an absolute necessity to dip into ELLE for your monthly fashion, beauty and lifestyle fix, but now you’ll be able to take it a step further – by popping into the ELLE spa for a facial.
The premier spa is set to open at Eden Roc Renaissance Miami Beach Hotel in June later this year, and forms part of a major redevelopment of the property. Uncharacteristically fitting for our current weather conditions, 2 – 8 May just happens to be Sun Awareness Week. While it may have cooled down slightly now, there’s probably a fair few of you who were feeling the effects of the recent tropical temperatures that graced the UK. Peeling shoulders and tan lines aside, the sun can do a lot more damage than you realise – even if you are just spending the afternoon in a pub garden.
The British Association of Dermatologists’ Skin Awareness campaign, which runs annually from April to September, has two primary aims:
to educate people about the dangers of sunburn, excessive tanning and sunbeds
to encourage people to regularly examine themselves for any early signs of skin cancer
Sounds simple enough, but there are still more than 70,000...

From our desire to change its colour every few months, to the absolute necessity to blast it with over 200 degrees of heat every morning - us girls have a habit of putting our hair through some fairly torturous activities. Apparently they’re starting to take their toll on the likes of Lady Gaga, who recently revealed that her hair is beginning to fall out due to the amount of times she’s reached for the bleach bottle to keep up her platinum blonde look. While she’s no stranger to sporting the odd wig when performing, her harsh treatment of her hair could leave her needing a little help off-stage as well.
Hair loss can occur for any number of reasons, including stress, chemotherapy, major surgery or pulling your hair with excessive force – like with cornrows or tight ponytails. Whether...
All the sunshine, holidays and Royal Wedding excitement have made us come over all giddy this week, and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than by offering you the chance to win a £250 spa voucher (we’re generous like that).
Family gatherings are a breeding ground for hilarity at the best of times, let alone when you introduce a multitude of big hats and drunken speeches, so it’s no surprise that weddings are often the setting for a few ridiculous stories. Whether you were the bride who can now appreciate the funny side of a dress malfunction, or a guest with memories of an unfortunate trip mid-aisle, we want to hear all about it. Simply head over to our bridal page to share your funny wedding tale and the story with the most ‘Likes’ wins – the more embarrassing the better!...

Even though one in five of us will suffer from depression at some point in our lives, the illness still comes with a certain stigma attached to it, leaving many suffering in silence. To combat this, Depression Alliance started Depression Awareness Week – a time devoted to highlighting how we’re all affected by depression, what we can do to help and what services are available to sufferers.
Depression Alliance is the leading UK charity for people affected by depression. They want people to realise that it’s not just ‘feeling sad’ – it’s a debilitating illness that requires serious attention. Below are a few of the main symptoms of depression:
Tiredness and loss of energy
Loss of self-confidence
Feelings of guilt or worthlessness
If you’ve ever emerged from the doctors’ surgery feeling more stressed than you did when you went in, Homeopathy could be for you. If you’ve never even heard of it, no need to worry, because this week is World Homeopathy Awareness Week – so what better time to learn?
It’s a system of medicine that works on triggering the body’s own natural healing systems with highly diluted substances, which are specifically tailored to you as an individual. The system works on a treat ‘like with like’ basis, so if you’re suffering from sleeplessness and agitation, the substance Coffea may be used to treat you. Science hasn’t yet been able to explain how homeopathy works its magic, but many patients have success with complementary treatment where traditional Western medicine has failed them.
If the first signs of spring are more likely to send you running for the tissue box than frolicking through open fields, you’ll be pleased to hear that it’s National Allergy Week right now. Allergy UK want to educate people about new allergy management programmes, illustrate how sufferers are affected by allergies and raise awareness of the limited services available to them.
Being the lovely, cuddly people we are, we’ve created a roundup of all the allergy-friendly options you’ve got at your fingertips on Wahanda.
1) First things first, set yourself up with an allergy test to make sure you know exactly what you’re dealing with. Whether it’s tree pollen getting up your nose or dairy giving you a dodgy tummy, getting the right diagnosis and advice will make your allergies much easier to...

April, as well as bringing us daffodils, lambs and an excess of chocolate, is also World Earth Month. These few weeks are solely dedicated to promoting environmental awareness and encouraging people to find ways they can help to reduce and reverse the negative effects us humans have had on our fragile planet.
French organic beauty brand, Melvita, are doing their bit by bringing a touch of nature to our buzzing capital, and installing an apiary (otherwise known as bee yard) above their London flagship store in Covent Garden.
Melvita’s founder, Bernard Chevilliat, was a beekeeper himself and used the honey from his own hives to create natural and organic beauty products. 30 years on, the brand has over 300 products in its range and is still committed to protecting the environment and bee...
Skincare is a difficult thing when you’re in your teens to mid-twenties. You’re old enough that you want to start looking after your skin (after all, there are more photos being snapped of you at this age than any other) but you’re too busy (or lazy) to spend huge amounts of time tending to your pores.
Most skincare ranges miss out this limbo phase, preferring to skip straight to preventing the first signs of ageing once you hit late-twenties. Elemis, however, have been kind enough to release their new freshskin range – tailored for young skin and capable of keeping up with your packed schedule.
Noella Gabriel, Elemis’ Director of Product & Treatment Development and creator of freshskin describes her motivation behind the range:
“We really want freshskin to become a girl’s first...
There’s not a lot you can do these days to escape the crazy amount of chemicals that we’re exposed to on a daily basis. Our food is full of it, the air we breathe is full of it – my coughing fit while styling my hair this morning proves my hairspray is full of it – and the products we apply to our skin every day are one of the big culprits.
We’re all chasing after that elusive victory over age and environment: perfect, flawless skin. But unfortunately most of the saving-graces on the market boast an endless list of unpronounceable ingredients.
For some, this is even more of a problem than for others. Teacher, professional make-up artist and entrepreneur (with a degree in Biochemistry to boot) Clare Eluka has suffered from Candida Albicans for years, which means she has allergies to...
If you’re obsessed with the spa world, planning on expanding your family or thinking of going under the knife, make sure you book out the 15-16 April in your diary.
For these two days, London Olympia brings you Destination Health – a health and medical show incorporating The Spa and Wellness Show, Fertility World and The Cosmetic Surgery Show. It’s the ultimate show for leading resorts, practitioners and treatments from around the globe – giving you the opportunity to seek the best advice out there.

They’re thought of as the professional’s brand of choice, been voted In Style Beauty Award winners four consecutive years running, are loved in over 90 countries and provided relaxing treatments to the likes of Tinie Tempah backstage at this year’s Brit Awards – it should be illegal not to have sampled Decléor products.
I’ll put my hands up – I am one such criminal. Or I was, until I took myself along to Spa Illuminata in the heart of Mayfair to hear all about the launch of three fabulous new anti-ageing products.
There’s one for each age bracket, so whether you’re in your twenties, thirties or late forties and fifties, there’s a product for you. The first is the Expression de l’Age Smoothing Roll On – an innovative new serum that works to target those first signs of ageing. It...
It happens to us all at some point. One day, you’ll be idly looking at yourself in the mirror – carrying out the usual prods and pokes – when suddenly a strand of hair will catch the light in a brighter-than-normal kind of way. Yes, the day has arrived. You have your first grey hair.
“But I’m only 25!” you cry. Hairdressers around the country will reassure you that you’re not alone. A new study carried out by hair experts John Frieda has revealed that 32% of British women are now turning grey under the age of 30, and two thirds of them blame it on stress.
The answer? Wahanda!
We’ve got it all at the tips of your fingers (or roots, if you’d prefer). While the argument continues about whether it’s all in the genes, or whether our taste for a life in the fast lane is leaving our hair...
If you’ve got a baby-shaped due date arriving and you’re feeling a bit nervous about the birth itself, we’ve got some news that could be (whale) music to your ears. The NHS is funding research into the use of hypnotherapy as birth preparation, and a detailed survey of more than 1250 women has revealed that a staggering 95% felt that the techniques led to a more positive birthing experience.
The women surveyed listened to the multi-award winning Natal Hypnotherapy CDs throughout their pregnancy and the results indicate that they then experienced a less painful, more positive and less interventionist birth, with only a 15% caesarean rate – 10% lower than the national average. 89% also reported that the CDs helped them overcome any fears related to the birth and 61% were able to manage the...
Thinking of getting a boob job? Start saving now, as cosmetic surgery is about to get a whole lot more painful - if only for your pocket. Industry experts are expecting the prices to go sky high within 12 months, with breast enlargement surgery rocketing from £5,000 to £10,000 - and you could even fork out a massive £12,000 for a facelift.
The expected rise is thanks to the number of patients turning to compensation after claiming they received botched cosmetic surgery operations. One example is businesswoman Penny Johnson, who is suing her facelift surgeon for £54 million after he allegedly left her with a ‘monster eye’ that prevented her from working and ruined her family life.
One of Britain’s leading cosmetic surgeons, Mrs CC Kat, is warning that this ‘compensation culture’ could...

Things haven’t been easy for former Hollyoaks actress Davinia Taylor, but the launch of her new salon, Taylor Made, proves that she’s back on track. Five months pregnant and hosting a fabulous baby bump, she made a great impression on the Wahanda crew when we made our way down to the salon yesterday afternoon.
Forgetful as ever, the invitation had slipped our minds when choosing what to wear in the morning, so we rocked up to a celebrity salon launch in our cosy casuals. Oops. Thankfully though, Davinia was incredibly welcoming and down-to-earth, and not one person in the salon made us feel out of place.
That’s one of the first things to note about Taylor Made – it’s the type of place that you really feel comfortable in. The salon is all about creating a relaxed, personalised...
Unless you’re completely oblivious, you’re probably aware that we’re almost halfway through March (already?!), but you’re less likely to know that it’s also Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Ovarian cancer charity, Ovacome, are determined to rectify this fact and have kicked their BEAT campaign up a notch.
Ovarian cancer is the second most common gynaecological cancer in the UK – affecting over 6,800 women a year. Despite this, the average GP will typically only see one case of ovarian cancer every five years, even though the outcome for the disease is positive if diagnosed early enough.
Ovacome was founded in 1996 by ovarian cancer survivor Sarah Dickinson. Inspired by her own experience and the realisation that this was a ‘silent’ disease – she wanted to do her bit to raise awareness. ...
Jemma Kidd - makeup artist, columnist and sister to supermodel Jodie Kidd – spoke out this week about her extended battle with anxiety and panic attacks. Her attacks were seemingly random and uncontrollable, and she suffered in silence before finally gaining control over her disorder by learning how to reprogramme the ways her mind responded to certain situations. Anxiety disorder affects 1 in 20 adults in Britain, so if you’re feeling the pressure, we’ve got a few tips to lend a helping hand.

It’s Ash Wednesday today, meaning that if you participated in the obligatory gorging of pancakes yesterday it’s now time to take the next step and give something up for Lent. Traditionally, Lent is a period of Christian fasting to commemorate the time that Jesus spent in the desert overcoming Satan’s temptations. Even for those who may not follow religion, it’s become a time filled with good intentions, where discarded New Year’s resolutions (“I won’t drink/smoke/eat chocolate/miss a workout EVER again!”) can be revived for forty days and nights.
Whether you’re doing it for religious reasons or just for fun, Wahanda know that forty days is a long time - so we’ve got a few ideas to help you out along the way.

Holidays... sun beds... one-bottle-of-wine-too-many... We’re often guilty of being a little harsh on our skin. If you’re ready to start being a little kinder to yours, Scin are offering you a free Dr Murad Skin Scan at their London spas.
Founded by sisters Anna and Nicky Noble, Scin Spas are all about providing high quality beauty treatments in a warm, friendly environment. Their spas are modern and fresh, while remaining focused on expert training and happy customers.

If you’re sick of shaving cuts, stubbly legs and that oh-so-enjoyable razor burn – laser hair removal experts Sk:n have the answer. They’ve hijacked March and labelled it Sk:n Razor Amnesty Month – giving you the opportunity to get a free laser hair removal test patch and an in-depth consultation with a Sk:n expert, an offer usually worth £25.
Presenter and beauty expert Nicky Hambleton-Jones is encouraging us all to bin the blades:
“Come on ladies and gents! It’s time to throw out those razors and think about an alternative solution to unwanted hair. I’m a great believer in laser hair removal, especially as it’s not always easy to find time to keep your body hair free. Laser hair removal is becoming more and more popular – especially with high street clinics like Sk:n providing such...
We’ve got some good news for you - research shows that there’s no need to feel guilty about taking time out to nap during the day. Apparently catching up on some Zs with a 45 minute power nap can help lower your blood pressure after a stressful event.
Participants in the experiment were split into two groups - one of which was allocated a 60 minute period during the day to get some sleep – and both were asked to complete a complex mathematical sum designed to raise blood pressure. It was found that those who’d managed to take advantage of a little shut-eye had significantly lower blood pressure rates during the test than those who’d stayed awake.
While this is all well and good in theory, most of us are severely frowned upon if we try and nod off at our desks (even we are not supposed...
We’ve all got our little body issues – whether it’s that bit that sticks out no matter which way you twist around in the mirror, or that niggling comment from a friend that you just can’t shift from your mind. Whatever it is, chances are you poke and prod at it, but eventually just learn to accept it as part of who you are – it’s our differences that make us unique, after all.
But with more and more advancements in cosmetic surgery, it seems that some celebrities and beauty fans are going to extreme lengths to get rid of the tiniest of flaws. A new anti-ageing laser treatment promises to make any unsightly veins in the hands simply disappear – at a price of £2,000 to £4,000.
These bulging veins are usually found on those who have a lower body fat percentage, with Angelina Jolie or...
An article released last week stated that we girls spend £133,575 during our lifetime in an effort to look perfect from head to toe. This works out at an average of £2,055 a year, with over £700 of that going on body maintenance and over £400 devoted to our hair.
Sound like a lot? Wahanda believe that feeling great is worth spending your hard-earned pennies on, but we’re all about getting the best possible deals to you. You could save up to 80% by checking out our daily MobDeals and that £400 could be cut right down to size by taking advantage of our hairdressing deals. Plus, we even give you some money if you sign up to our newsletter – a whole £5 credit for you to spend on the site deals.

There’s a few of us here at Wahanda who understand how irritating wearing glasses can be. They’re annoying on holiday when you want to go swimming or wear sunglasses; they squish into your face when you try and watch TV in bed and they’re never, ever where you think you left them. If you’re feeling particularly peeved with your lenses but can’t bring yourself to go through laser eye surgery, then the new glasses range from Gok Wan could be perfect for you.
Despite all their annoyances, getting new glasses can be exciting and it allows you to change your entire look in seconds while of course giving you better vision – strained eyes are so last season. If you love fashion, but the likes of Chanel or Dior are a little out of your price range, Gok’s got the answer. His new range of retro...
Picture the scene: It’s Saturday, so you pop into town for a spot of shopping with a friend - maybe she needs an outfit for an important date and wants your opinion, or maybe you’ve just got an extra few pennies floating around. You spend a couple of hours mooching up and down the high street, enjoy a well-deserved coffee and a cake and then... head over to Superdrug for your afternoon cosmetic surgery appointment?
Yes, you read right. Superdrug are now offering cosmetic surgery treatments in special ‘clinics’, the first of which opens this week in Kensington, with plans to open more around the country. You’ll be able to get anything from eyebrow threading to skin peels - even a fish pedicure. The anti-wrinkle treatments are said to take 10-15 minutes and cost about £145, which is a third...
If you’re anything like me, being faced with a beauty department can be a very confusing experience. When you’ve got Chanel and Estee Lauder on your left; and Clinique and Elizabeth Arden on your right, how are you supposed to choose between it all? All of the sales girls look equally perfect and each product seems to make a more exciting claim than the next – but how do you decide which ones are actually worth spending your hard-earned money on?
No need to worry: the CEW (UK) Beauty Awards do a little bit of the hard work for you. Launched in 2006, the awards hunt down the best and most innovative products on the market, chosen by a panel of beauty industry experts. They all met last week to receive their package of free samples that they are all to judge (lucky devils) and the winners...
Mandara Spas are all about pleasure. Steeped in the traditional healing spirit of the Balinese and with a name straight from an ancient Sanskrit myth about the quest for eternal youth (never a bad thing) – they are the ultimate in luxury pampering.
2011 has brought the first Mandara Spa to the UK – a treat usually reserved for those with a little more than a 30% annual sunshine rate. Head to the Park Plaza Westminster Hotel in London’s South Bank and you could find yourself treated to a Balinese massage, an Asian Head Massage or even an Elemis Pro-Collagen Quartz Lift Facial. It offers an indulgent Asian escape from the grey clouds of the city and it’s the first time that a spa has had Mandara, Elemis and Bliss products under one roof.

I’ll admit it – at age 22, I was a facial virgin. Acne and sensitive skin had plagued me throughout my teen years and since then a less-than-ideal bank balance had left beauty treats decidedly in the “things I cannot afford” pile. So when I got the chance to try out one of Omorovicza’s Deep Cleansing and Pore Refining Facials, I couldn’t wait.
I arrived in a typical bad morning mood – I’d slept badly, my hair was ignoring my orders on all counts and my train had been one of those awful, old, four carriage ones. I was hoping a facial might restore some sort of positivity in me and I wasn’t disappointed.
I arrived a little early so took a few minutes to wander around Liberty’s – one of my favourite department stores – which definitely put me in the right frame of mind for...

We here at Wahanda are always happy to support a good cause – especially if it involves a healthy dose of sweat along the way. Former Royal Marine Commando, Greg Pye, has launched a truly inspirational fundraising event to test even the fittest exercise junkies out there. He’s looking for companies and individuals to form eleven teams of eleven people who will each complete the Three Peaks Challenge – an ascent and descent of the three highest peaks in the UK in 24 hours: Scotland’s Ben Nevis, England’s Scafell Pike and Mount Snowdon in Wales.
Greg decided to launch this fundraiser after losing so many of his friends in Afghanistan and then seeing the great work that Help for Heroes does in building Personnel Recovery Centres, which provide rehabilitation for soldiers following active...
Drum roll please... It’s our birthday! Oh yes, we’ve reached the grand old age of 3 and we’re celebrating in true Wahanda style. Our first few years have been filled with exciting exploits, but one of the things that we’ve been known for is bringing the fintastic fish pedicure into the limelight.
We’ve never been ones to miss out an an oppor-tuna-ty to treat ourselves, so we’ve pushed the boat out and perch-ased some of our very own fishy friends for Wahanda HQ! We’ve been floundering about making a fuss of them all morning, but if you fancy musselling in on the action and keeping up with all of their adventures, you can follow them on Twitter at @wahandafish.
You know we’re a sucker for a good d-eel, and Mr and Mrs WahandaFish are no different. They’ll be offering you some amazing...
You can’t move in the shops without ploughing headfirst into something heart-shaped at the moment, but if the thought of Valentine’s Day is pulling at your purse strings a little too much then we’ve got the perfect thing to put the romance back into your February.
As well as being the official day of love, February 14th just so happens to be our third birthday, so we’re hijacking the celebrations and sharing them with you - aren’t we lovely? We’ve come a long way in just three small years, and as you all know we’ve just launched our fantastic dated booking system for all you spa break lovers. So we thought, why not give one away?
We’d feel far too guilty hogging all the presents for ourselves, so we’re offering you the chance to win a one night spa break for two at the Clumber Park...
Alex is a fresh, new intern at Treatwell, and she's very excited about finally being in London . She loves summer sunshine, music , dancing and writing about everything and anything, but has a bad habit of trying to do a million things at once... so don't blame her if she's running late!See my profile
